Hi, my name is Kyah, I am 17 years old oh, and I am a vampire.
My town has always had vampires, you know. They have white hair and pink eyes. Basically, albinos with a craving for blood and some interesting company.
You see, vampires lose their everything when they get turned, and they spend the rest of their elongated lives looking for a people to care for, and about. Usually they would find a mate to stick with even though it wasn't very easy. They didn't exactly chose their own mates, but they would know who the mate was and would stick with the mate and convince the mate to stay with them for the rest of their elongated lives.
This is my story, from before I got changed into this, and the feelings I had about it, to right this minute.
I always was a bit strange, looking anyway. I had hair that reached the back if my knees, naturally black. It was straight and silky. Nothing like the other "popular" girls that lived around here. I also only wore pale colors, with occasional black. White, lavender, periwinkle, or Grey made up most of my wardrobe.
I smiled easily, and was a very affectionate person, with those people that actually talked to me that is. The only time i was affectionate was when someone I knew had their heart broken. I would hug them and comfort them until they felt better, weather it took 20 minutes or 3 months.
I was mostly ignored, when I wasn't needed, most people didn't even know that I was in the world, let alone the school. I was lonely most of the time, and I never dated anyone. That might be because I am a lesbian. Don't tell anyone, barely anyone knows. And barely anyone cares.
The only other people that are like me are the vampires, and I would never get the attention of even one of them. Or so I thought.
Its not that I'm ugly, or anything, I don't have acne, I don't have many scars, I think that it's just how quiet I am. I never caught anyone's interest, until a new student came, her name was Luna October.
She was beautiful, and graceful, though she was not as slight of a frame as me. She had shirt choppy hair, white like the rest of them, her eyes were more of a red then the usual pink. As i said before she wasn't as slight as me, she was taller around 5'7 while I was a 5'3. Her clothing was a lot darker then other people in the school. Black and deep purple were the only colors on her.
What struck me was that she was staring right at me, and she didn't pass me over for one of the other people in the class. I got a little nervous, was something wrong with me? I checked, no stains, and nothing was stuck to my face, so I was very confused.
She took the seat in my table right next to me. She smiled and introduced herself as Luna October, this made me smile, October is my favorite month, and I have a great fasination of the moon. She asked me for my own name and I was kind of embaresed her name was pretty and mine was so ordinary. Kyah Burdick. She frowned and nodded.
I thought that she was going to ignore me like the others usually do, but she didn't. The rest of my science class was taking notes, but the teacher would let us talk if we wanted. Luna spent most of the period talking to me, asking about myself and my life.
I answered as best as I could and tried to add in some humor ever now and again. She, oddly enough, actually looked amused at my half-assed attempts. When the bell rang for the next class I almost got trampled, as usual. Its the result of being socially invisible. Luna did not look very pleased about how flippant I was about it.
"Why do you let them literally walk all over you!" She almost yelled this, causing people to look over at her, as though they were scared of the slightly angry vampire.
"Well," I started off softly," I guess I'm used to it, most people don't even see me anyways because they are so much taller then I am."
She didn't comment about it after that but she did get more protective of me. She walked behind me and was holding on to one of my belts, I assumed it was so she wouldn't lose me in the crowd. Whenever someone ran into me and kept on walking she would send them a cold angry glare, and would look down at me to be sure that I wasn't injured in anyway.
She was in all of my classes and would sit next to me in them all, watching over me. It didn't creep me out like I thought it would. Instead i felt protected, and safe from all harm. That day i had no bruises when I got home. Luna seemed to be really great, even if she was technically a vampire.
She seemed to really be interested in me which was a nice change from being Miss Invisible (1). Before I meet her life was boring, lonely, and kind of depressing. Even though I had only known her for a day, she had made my life a lot better then it has been in years.
She gave me hug before she ran to her house and I got on the bus. No one noticed me again, but today I only had three backpacks thrown on me. Thankfully only one was heavy enough to bruise, and that was just under my ribs, so i wouldn't have to worry about it being seen by anyone.
1. Miss Invisible is a song sung by Marie Digby, if you look it up its not that bad, and kind of relates to the story.
