I was given a task

A task I alone must complete

Innocence was my protector,

And innocence was my demise.

Doubt tainted my decisions,

I could not act.

Responsibility weighted my shoulders,

I could not stand.

Helpless to fix what I saw,

My eyes refused to open

I slumbered deeply

Untouched by reality

Living in fantasy and nightmare

A prisoner of my own mind.

But then, a voice.

The angel spoke in the darkness:

This is not your fate.

Awake from your slumber.

See life as it truly is.

Go forth and live.
