Atlanta, Georgia/ Savannah, Georgia Clark Apartment/House July - Aug 2002

Its two more days before Penny, her grandfather, Isaac, and dog, Mercy, will be moving to Savannah. Penny doesn't want to move because her mother and grandmother were buried here in Atlanta, Georgia. So, Penny sat on the couch with Mercy, watching some tv. Then Isaac enter the living room from the kitchen.

"Did you pack your stuff?" Isaac ask.

"Yes grandpa." Penny reply.

Penny is wearing short sleeve orange knee length dress and white socks. Her black hair is kept as a low pigtails.

Isaac is wearing short sleeve gray shirt, tan khakis, and black socks. He is nearly bald due to strees and age.

"Did you pack Mercy's stuff too?"

".....No...."

"Can you please pack her stuff too?"

"Yes, grandpa."

Penny stood up from the couch and return to her bedroom. Mercy also gets off the couch and follow Penny into the bedroom. Isaac heads to his bedroom and finish packing. As he puts photos albums in his bag, he grabs the picture of himself and his dead wife, Tabatha. He looks at the picture for a while before puttig it in his suitcase. Tabatha had a massive heart attack when Penny was 8 years old. Anyway, once Penny finish packing Mercy's stuff, she and Mercy heads back to the living room and watch some tv. Its around 6pm when Isaac came back to the living room and sat next to Penny.

"Penny.....do you want to eat out?" Isaac ask.

"To where?" Penny ask back.

"The Bone's Restaurant."

"Okay. We can go."

Before they can go, Penny grab some doggy food for Mercy. Since Penny has mild Mental Retardation, Mercy need to go with Penny. Once Penny puts the doggy food in her bag, they exit the house. They got into the gray van and drove to the Bone's Restaurant. Two days has finally pass and the movers finally came to the apartment building. As the movers move the funiture and boxes of dishes and pots, Penny and Isaac put their luggages into the back of the van. Mercy is sitting next to the van.

"Can I buy some food? Its gonna be a long drive." Penny says to Isaac.

"Alright then. Here some money. You and Mercy only got 1 hour and 30 minutes before we leave ok?" Isaac reply.

"Yes, grandpa. Mercy, lets go."

Penny and Mercy walk down the street. They walk a couple of blocks to 7 11. She brought some chocolate milk, OJ, 3 muffins, bag of chips, and a slurpee. Once she pay the stuff, Penny and Mercy quickly heads back to the apartment. Soon enough, they head to Savannah. Its a couple of hours drive and during the drive, Penny took her nap and Mercy is laying her lap, being lazy. Once they finally there, Isaac park the van and woke up Penny.

"Penny. We're here." Isaac says to her.

Penny rub her eyes and yawn a bit. She then look the van window.

"Is that our new home, grandpa?" Penny ask.

"Yes, it is. Do you like it?"

"Yes, I do. Can me and Mercy go inside now?"

"You can, but bring your stuff with you. Your bedroom is on the third floor."

"Okay."

Penny open the side door and get off the van with Mercy. She grab her lugagge and Mercy's stuff before enter the house. The living room is bigger than the living room in her old apartment. It has greenish tiles and sun yellow wallpaper. The kitchen is slightly bigger than the kitchen from the old apartment. The stove with the black counter is in the middle of the kitchen. The walls of the kitchen is also has sun yellow walls but the floor is white tile. The kitchen has two sinks, dishwasher, and fridge. Penny and Mercy then took the stairs to the third floor of the house.

As they enter the Penny's new bedroom, Penny's eyes widen a bit. The bedroom has a extra room and Penny already knows how to use it. The walls are the color of soft pink and the color of the carpet is lavender. The bathroom's walls are white and the floor is white tile. The tub have remind you that it came from the 1950's. She then heard the movers enter her bedroom and they're carry her bed. She began telling them to put her bed, dresser, and night stand in her bedroom. She then told them to put her desk in her dark room. As they place the fuiniture, Penny puts her clothes in the closet and puts panties, socks, and pants in the dresser.

Once she finish, Penny and Mercy exit the bedroom and went to the second floor. The second floor has the master bedroom and it belongs to Isaac. The master bedroom has tan walls and chocolate brown carpets. Like Penny's bedroom, everything is white as snow. Isaac's queen sized bed, redwood desk, and dresser are already in place. Penny and Mercy exit Isaac's bedroom and heads downstairs to the living toom. As they enter the living room, they saw the 4 seat couch, tv, coffee table, and two bookshelves. Penny notice that her grandfather is talking to one of the movers. Once Isaac pay the movers and says goodbye to them, he approach Penny and Mercy.

"Well?" Isaac ask.

"Well what?" Penny ask back.

"Do you like your new home, Penny?"

"Yea. It is bigger than our old apartment."

"True. Its around 6pm. Do you want to eat?"

"Yea, but should we shop for food for the fridge?"

"We will after we eat dinner first. Is that alright with you?"

"Yes, grandpa."

Penny, Isaac, and Mercy exit their house and got into their van. They heads to the nearest resturant and ate dinner. Once they finish dinner, they went to the nearest supermarket and brought some of the basics(milk, OJ, carrots, cereal, sandwich bread, eggs, and few other items). Next morning, Penny is awaken by her grandfather. Penny rubs her eyes a bit before sitting up. Mercy is also awake by Isaac. She yawns for a few seconds before jumping off the bed.

"Grandpa, its 7:30am. Why you woke up me and Mercy? Penny ask.

"I have to meet up with the Dean of Business at Savannah State University. I need you to come with me." Isaac explain.

"Can I stay home alone? I have Mercy with me."

"I know, but I rather have you come with me, Penny. Alright?"

"Yes, sir."

"Anyway, please get ready. I will be making eggs."

Isaac exit the bedroom and heads downstairs to the kitchen. Penny gets off the bed and close the bedroom door before heading to her closet. She change out her pjs clothes and change into red spagetti strap shirt, knee length orange khakis, and white socks. She puts on her tennis shoes and grab her strap purse before she and Mercy exit their bedroom and heads downstairs to the kitchen. As they the kitchen, Penny's and Isaac's plates are on the table. Isaac have to open the back door so Mercy goes outside and do her business.

"Please sit down and eat your breakfast." Isaac says.

"Okay." Penny reply as she sat down at the table.

Penny began eating her eggs and toast. After a few minutes, Isaac join his grand-daughter at the table and ate breakfast with her. Once they finish breakfast, Penny clean the dishes before she and Isaac left the house. Mercy has to stay behind so she can run around in the backyard. It is a 20 minute drive from their house to Savannah State University. Once they finally there, Isaac park the van befor he and Penny gets out and walk to the Business Building. Soon enough, they meet up with Roger Peterson, the Dean of Business.

"You must be Isaac Clark, right?" Roger ask as he shook hands with Isaac.

"Yes, I am." Isaac reply.

Roger is a few years old than Isaac. He has short dark brown hair and soft brown eyes. He's wearing short sleeve white button up shirt, tan slacks, and nice shoes.

"Before we head to the meeting room, who is this young lady?" Roger ask.

"She's my grand-daughter, Penelope Clark." Isaac reply.

"But I rather be call Penny." Penny quickly stated.

"That is a nice name." Roger says to her.

"Thank you sir." Penny says back to him.

"Penny, do you want to explore around the campus?" Isaac ask.

"Sure." Penny reply.

"Do you have your cell phone, Penny?"

"Yes, grandpa."

"Please be careful."

Penny says to her goodbyes to Isaac and Roger before heading to a different direction. Isaac and Roger then heading to the meeting room. Penny is surprise that Savannah State University is a big school, but kinda remembers that most universities are big as this school. Since she became quickly distracted, she bump into someone by accident,

"I'm sorry." Penny quickly says to a male student.

"Its alright." the 18 year old man says to her.

The 18 year old man has light rough brown skin, shoulder length dreadlocks, and brown eyes. He's wearing short sleeve black shurt, knee length dark brown khakis, and worn out tennis shoes.

"Are you little young to enter to this school?"

"I am going to be a freshman at Savannah Art Academy."

"Really?"

"Yes I am."

"Well....my name is Nathanial Richardson. What is your name?"

"Penny Clark. My grandpa is going to teach here this fall."

"Which classes?"

"Ummm.......International Business........Marketing.........and Mass Communication."

"Your old man is a business man. That is good then. You don't see many black men doing pretty well in business."

"Yea. Now please excuse me. I need to find my grandpa and see if he's finish talking with Mr. Peterson."

"Alright then. Later."

Penny wave goodbye and went to a different direction. Nathanial then heads to the admissions office. As he enter the office, he met up with his twin sister, Nicole.

"Hi Nicole.' He says to her.

"Hey. What took you so long?" Nicole ask.

Nicole has raven black hair(goes to her midback), brown eyes, and light brown skin. She's wearing short sleeve white shirt, blue jeans, and tennis shoes.

"I was talking to some girl."

"You probadly flirting with her."

"If I did that, I will go to jail."

"Oh. Sorry."

"Well....this girl told me that her grandpa is going to teach at this school."

"What is the teacher's name?"

"Mr Clark. You probadly going to see him couple of times since you're majoring in business and marketing."

"Thanks I guess......so are you sure about your decision?"

"About me going to Savannah College of Art and Design?"

"Yea. You know that mom and dad are happy about it."

"I know, but I rather be homeless than become a business person."

As the twins exit the admissions building and talk, Penny manage to find the business buidling but she did not find him. So, she wait for about 20 minutes until her grandpa exit the building. She quickly walk up to him.

"Hi grandpa. Do you and Mr. Peterson had a nice talk?" Penny ask.

"Yes, we did. Are you hungry?"

"Yes, I am."

"Ok. Lets get something to eat."

Isaac and Penny gets off the campus and heads to the nearest diner. For the next few days, as Isaac is getting ready for Savannah State University, Penny spents her free time at home with Mercy. Isaac did told Penny that she wants to go somewhere and he isn't home, she needs to call him on his cell phone. Once Isaac left the house to do some errands, Penny and Mercy heads upstairs to her bedroom. As they enter the bedroom Penny enter the dark room. She didn't use the dark room yet since she needs to set some things up.

"Mercy, do you want to walk a couple of blocks?" Penny ask.

Mercy simply look at her before she yawns and whines a bit.

"Okay. Lets go to take a walk."

Penny and Mercy exit their bedroom and heads downstairs to the living room. Before she exit the house, Penny call her grandpa on his cell. Since Isaac did not pick up his cell, she left the message. Soon enough, Penny and Mercy left the house and began walking dock the sidewalk. They walk a couple of blocks until they're at the park. They head to the nearest tree and sat under the shade. As Penny relax and petting Mercy, she watch kids playing with their parents.

"I wish mama is still alive." Penny thought to herself.

Penny's mom, Grace, killed herself when she was was 3. Isaac told Penny that her mommy died in a traffic accident. Anyway, Penny and Mercy sat there for 30 minutes before befre they stood up and head back home. For the next 2 - 3 weeks, Isaac is getting his stuff for his classes at Savannah State University. He did manage to take Penny for clothes shopping. Then one night, after they finish eating dinner at home, Isaac gave Penny a second pair of house keys.

"Grandpa, how come you gave me the house keys?" Penny ask.

"Those are the second pair of the house keys. Since I won't be home in the afternoons because the school gave me afternoon classes......I made a copy of the house keys." Isaac explain.

"Got it."

Penny puts away the leftovers and help her grandpa to wash the dishes. Once they're finish, Penny and Mercy heads to their bedroom and soon went to sleep while Isaac goes to his bedroom as well and read a book.
