Finish Your Spinach

I don't much care for veggies
I used to be a kid, you know
And, not being forced to eat them
Aside from mush in jars
I found a sugar desire
The sweetest, saddest kind
Dissolves on the tongue
Left wanting more

There was another food today
With a smell I knew well
It was swell
Couldn't get enough
It was sweet
But not sugary
I breathed in again to remember

I never finished the spinach
It was too green

Too alive for me
