Chapter 15 / Farewell

“Gen,” Liana called, walking among the mess, “what are you doing?”

“Mother,” Gen turned to Liana, as well as Celine, who was standing next to Gen. Liana was standing, her face showed fear, fear about her secret of being revealed by the one she loved, by her own son.

“Mother,” Gen walked to Liana, showing the old diary he held, “is this true?”

Liana kept in lucent, representing the truth of Gen’s statement. She cried, “I’m sorry, Gen.”

Liana kneeled down; her face was showing her pain. Her arms were crossed over her body, gripping her own shoulders.

Gen ran to his mother, but his mother suddenly screamed, “Don’t get closer!” and then she fell.

Mother,” Gen worried, approaching his mother. He ignored the warning and the screams that she gave. He grabbed his mother’s shoulder, stopping her from falling. But in return, Liana pushed Gen away. She coughed very hard and collapsed with her hands on the ground supporting her fallen body.

Suddenly, Liana’s body turned black. Her body lifted to the back. From her black limbs, vesicles began to appeared and disappeared after. She threw her body to the front and began to stand up

Liana raised her hand, directing it to Gen. Her fingers extended, attacking Gen. Gen dodged, the black fingers stuck at the floor. Gen used the opening to immobilize his opponent. He pushed Liana, who has just turned into the black thing, back to the wall. With Edison’s ability, Gen created the curved pikes, and then threw them to each of Liana’s limbs, to block the moves.

Gen looked at his mother, who had turned into something worst that he didn’t want. He knew that he couldn’t help but to kill his own mother. But even though that’s the only choice, he couldn’t do it. He couldn’t kill his own mother, a single mother who had lived with him for nineteen years of his life.

Drowned by his deep thought, he didn’t notice that Liana had let go one of her hands. When he realized, it was too late; the black extended hand was only five centimeters away from him.

But the hand stopped. It cracked and broke into pieces. The owner of the hand cried out her pain. And an explosion came after, burning her. Liana, who has turned into a black figure, screamed and struggled in pain.

“Are you okay?” Edna and Jose came from the door. Gen tried to run to his mother, but Celine stopped him, then he kneeled down. Tears rolled down through his cheek. He cried for his mother.

“I know how you feel,” Jose tried to calm Gen. She bent down, putting her hands on Gen’s shoulder.

“Let’s go,” Gen got up, he knew that his only option was to leave, he walked to the door. He got out from the room, carrying the old diary. He saw the black things appeared, but he managed to kill them in one blow, his emotions were emitted very clearly from his face: he was mad from his mother’s death.

He raged through the line of black figures, smashing the black figures away from his way. He blasted them with his wind blow. The others thought that they had no right to meddle in, so they followed Gen without doing anything.

The roads were filled by the black figures, and Gen attacked them and kicked them away without any stop. Electrical sparks; strong wind; ground waves; and flying blades he used to attack. If any of them got closer, Gen sliced them with the sword in his hand.

They arrived at Errie’s house; Errie, Esmond, and the old man were waiting for their arrival. They went in; they sat down on the chair.

Gen, after calming himself down, asked, “What are those things?”

“They are the ghouls,” the old man explained,” They are flesh eating monster. They have high physical abilities and they can morph their body and harden it. But their initial shape is human shape.”

“I’ve faced them before,” Esmond added, “but never this much.”

“I’m thinking that they’ve released the ghouls on purpose,” said Gen.

Errie thought for a second, and then opened her mouth to the old man, “By the way, do you know the origin of these ghouls?”

“No,” the old man answered.

Gen, who had his thought filled with the ghouls, finally remembered his conversation with Edison. So he told the rest about his dream of encounter with Edison; about his real intension, about The Wall and the experiment. He also told them about his mother.

“So Edison was never been a villain?” Errie asked.

“Yes”

“And we have killed the wrong guy?” Esmond asked.

“Yes”

“And that your mother has turned into a ghoul before she was killed?” asked the old man.

“Yes”

“Then maybe the ghouls came from the serum of psychic,” the old man confidently spoke.

“How did you know?” Gen asked.

“From the last writing of this diary,” said the old man, showing the last page of diary with writing.

Gen recalled that his mother turned into a ghoul, he also realized that therefore, the ghouls maybe came from human. Gen felt like a fool that he didn’t realized those until the old man told him.

“So,” Esmond interrupted the conversation, turning it into a silence, “what are we going to do?”

The silence continued after the last sentence; no one was thinking about that, for being to busy of talking about their enemies. But Gen had a wise decision, “Let us rest for now, we have encountered many thing that made us restless.”

It seemed that everyone agreed, as they started to rest their backs. Big sighs were heard, and the tight atmosphere around them gradually turned calm.

Hours had passed; they were still on the sofa. Celine, who was with them, started to regain her lost memory.

Good morning, Princess,” a heavy voice was calling.

What,” another voice, this one sounded like a woman, “she is the princess?

How come that you don’t know what you are protecting?” said the heavy voice insulting.

An angry scream was heard, followed by an explosion, she saw a red light penetrated her eyelid. Still lying, she slowly opened her eyes. She saw a woman was standing, strangled by the red light around the woman’s body. A masked person stood. It could be guessed that the masked person is the heavy voice owner.

The masked was raising his left arm, directing it to the woman’s body. Then the woman collapsed, breathless. The masked man approached her; saying,”Wake up, princess

Her body gradually regained strength. She moved her arms to lift her body. She looked at the masked person directly.

“Who are you?” she asked.

“I came to take you away,” the masked answered.

“Why?”

“I need you to save someone,” the masked answered again, while kept stepping closer to her.

She felt in danger, so she raised her right hand, still on kneeling position, to attack. But before she could do anything, her hand exploded. She was thrown to the wall. She saw that the masked also raising his hand and directing it to her.

The masked person put his hand down, and continued to walk closer to her. He said, “Then I should make you do it by force.”

The masked man raised his hand, almost putting it to her head. She felt a heavy dizziness in her head, the dizziness became nausea, and then she collapsed. She felt no strength left from her body.

Strangely she stood up. However, she couldn’t feel her body while moving, nor she can feel any control from it. Her mind became blank.

She walked without any feeling nor any thought. Then she ran through the corridor. She was stopped by a man. She knocked the man down, continued running.

She got out from the building. The storm was wiping the street. The air was so cold and she wore nothing but a piece of cloth on her body.

She has regained her consciousness, and took over her body again. But she lost her memory. When she realized, she was standing in front of a door.
