[Chapter 1;]
Another summer day starts off. Alex is in her room, lying on the bed with a pencil on top of a piece of paper.
“Ugh!” she whines, frustrated as she attempt to write a song on her own. She thought to herself, “This is never gonna work. I need Gabbie!”
Alex picked up her phone, then pressed 1 to call Gabbie on speed-dial. And as soon as Gabbie said “hello” on the other line, she shrieked in excitement. Usually, Alex and Gabbie would spend the whole day together in Alex’s bedroom, composing lyrics and music. But this summer was different for both of them. They didn’t see each other as much as they would or want to. Gabbie was out of the house all the time. He said he was doing something important…a surprise for Alex. Gabbie wanted to keep it as a secret as much as possible, especially from his bestfriend.
“Hi Alex. What’s up? Miss me much?!” Gabbie replied after recovering from the loud scream through the phone.
“GABBIE! Where are you?! I seriously need you right now!” Alex responded, as she tries to gain back herself for a moment.
“Are you just saying that so you can sneak up on my plans again?!” Gabbie smirked, knowing that she had done it before.
“No…Why’d you think that? Can’t I miss my own bestfriend?” Alex said defending herself through the phone, and trying to hide the truth even though Gabbie already caught him. Alex can never hide anything from Gabbie. They’ve known each other for so long that Gabbie thinks that he knows how it feels to be a girl. And also, because Alex tells him everything.
“Okay, fine. You caught me completely off guard!” Gabbie said, trying to satisfy his bestfriend. “Did you really miss me that much?” Gabbie cracked a joke.
“Yes I did. I really missed you, Gabbie. Didn’t you?” Alex responded with a serious voice. When Gabbie realized that she was really serious, he immediately tried to reply.
“Uhm…of course I did! I’ve been really busy enrolling…” Gabbie stopped as soon as he realized that he almost revealed his surprise.
“Enroll? Is that your surprise for me?! That you’re leaving me?!!” Alex asked angrily. “You know…If this is your surprise for me, then I don’t want it!” Alex hanged up. She didn’t even let him explain. It was painful for her. They’ve been bestfriends since they were little. She didn’t want to lose him. Alex cried throughout the night. She’d never felt so betrayed.
Next morning;
Alex woke up with a piece of paper held up to her face. She couldn’t read what it says because her eyes were still closed. She even thought that she was still in her dream. But when she realized that the person holding the paper was Gabbie, she quickly shoved the paper away and hid under the blanket.
“What? You don’t want it? Okay, fine. I guess I’ll just have to go by myself.” Gabbie said with a playful tone.
“Where are you going?” Alex asked. Her voice sounded like she was about to cry again.
“Uhmm well… I was going to ask my bestfriend to go with me to our dream school. But since she’s mad at me, I guess I’ll just have to go by myself.” Gabbie said as he peeks in under the blanket. Then when Alex caught him, she quickly grabs the blanket and tries to cover herself with it. But it was too late because Gabbie had already sneaked in. There was silence. Alex looked at him as if she was about to hit him. But she didn’t. She was mad at him but it was no reason for hurting him. He knew he was lucky this time. He sighed in relief. Then Alex finally broke the silence.
“I’m mad at you, okay?!” Alex said.
“You don’t have to be. I got you in that private school you wanted to attend, Alex. That was my surprise!” Gabbie explained. “You see this paper? This paper is a certificate that welcomes you to their school,” he said as he shows her the paper again.
“You did?! Really?!” her face turned calm, then excited.
“Yes!” Gabbie replied. He knew this will make her very happy. He wanted her to get in that school so they can fulfill their dream together. “So…are you still mad at me?” he asked with a big smile on his face.
“No, not anymore. But thanks, Gabbie! It really means a lot to me. I’m sorry if I screamed at you on the phone. I told you I don’t like surprises. But I’m still glad you did it for me.” Alex said with a smile in the corner of her lips.
“No problem. I just want us to be together.” Gabbie said.
“So…did you really miss me that much?!” he smirked, but her answer was important for him.
“No.” Alex replied. Then she hugged him very tight. The warmth of her hug showed how she really felt.
