After a bloody, gruesome battle
Where soldiers were slaughtered like cattle
The survivors lifted their gear
From fallen white dust of drear
The harshest winter known to man
Snow blew 'round like a wind tunnel fan
With icy fields stained with blood
and miles of land had turned to mud
Hours, days, and weeks passed
Soldiers trudged warily on
Captured allies had been gassed
All hope back home was gone
Soldiers' wives began to cry
Survival was quite slim
Nothing left for the army to try
as the future began to grow dim
Long forgotten was the war
Every victory, battle and score
Left behind to pass with time
Only to escape inside this rhyme
And now the truth has been discovered
with windows open, stories muttered
Stories left out of the books
because kings cheat when they play with rooks
