Tick, Tick, Tock

I hear the tick, tick, tick,

Ringing in my ear,

Telling me I should fear.

I hear the tick, tick, tock

Of that nasty clock,

Saying it’s time to block

Any other dreams my way,

So some stranger, to me, can say -

“I love you.”

“I want you.”

“Go out with me.”

“I need you, eternally.”

Tick, tick, chimes that object,

That has made me subject

To feelings of ugliness, of hate,

Hating that I don’t look great,

That I took too long to wait,

I need to act before it’s too late.

Tick, tick, tick –

Couples everywhere I see,

Why no boy or man for me?

Tick, tick, tock –

“Love” is just the sweetest word,

To not hear it is just absurd.

Tick, tick, tick –

What is wrong with you?

Do you not know how to –

Tick, tick, tock –

You’re getting older, hun,

Get one now before they’re gone.

Tick –

Why me, am I not pretty?

Tick –

Is it because I look too needy?

Tick –

Is it the way I walk?

Tick –

How else am I to talk?

Tick, tick, tock.
