Chapter Four
“I mean, I’ve heard of Merlin, but I never actually believed he existed. A lot of people said he went crazy.” Lucy said, after Sam told her what Julie had said.
“Great. Now the only hope we have is a crazy guy. That’s helpful.” Sam said. “But how many people, if any, have you killed?” she dreaded the answer.
“Four. Purely by accident. I would go too long without blood, then not be able to stop once I finally drank.”
Sam felt sick again. “So we have to bring four people back to life, with no idea how. Great,”
“Merlin might be our only hope. We have no choice. We have to find him.” Lucy said.
“But how? All we know is his name!” Sam said.
“I have a feeling that Julie knows more than she’s letting on. You’ll have to ask her again.”
“Fine. If you leave, I’m sure she’ll come.”
Lucy left the room.
“Go on…beg.” Julie said.
“Oh, for the love of God. Just tell me.”
“No. I do not like the way I was asked.”
“Fine. Wonderful, beautiful Julie. Will you please tell me where we can find Merlin?”
“667 Main Street, Los Angeles, California.”
“Great. It figures that a wizard freak would live in L.A.”
Julie actually laughed at that. “See you later, Samantha.”
“Yeah, yeah.” Sam sighed, but Julie was already gone.

“667 Main Street, Los Angeles.” Sam repeated to Lucy a few moments later.
“Wow! I can’t believe she actually told you.” Lucy said.
Sam, feeling hurt that Lucy didn’t have more faith in her, pointed out, “But now we only have six days left.”
“Don’t worry, I have that totally taken care of. As far as Mom and Dad know, I got accepted into that advanced dance camp at the last minute, and you’re going to that basketball camp on a scholarship. I can buy airline tickets online. We’re leaving as soon as we can, so go pack. Our ‘camps’ start tomorrow.”
Admiring Lucy’s preparation, Sam did as she was told, and got to packing. To Sam, this was exciting, frightening, and unreal all in one.
That evening, the sisters were in Lucy’s car, on their way to the airport. “I still can’t believe this is happening.” Sam said.
“Well, start believing. You’ll need all your wits about you for this.”
“I mean, just yesterday, my life was completely normal. Now I’m in a car with my vampire sister, on my way to go see a wizard.” Sam said.
“Off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of Oz…” Lucy sang under her breath. “And I’m a half vampire.”
“Still!” Sam cried. “Half or whole, this is unbelievable.”
After 30 minutes of silence, they arrived at the airport. After finding their flight, they boarder the plane. Three hours later, they landed in L.A.
Lucy took a deep breath. “I guess we should ask for directions to Main Street.”
Sam agreed. She saw a man in a suit carrying a briefcase. She nudged Lucy. “He looks like he knows his way around.”
“Sure,” Lucy said. She walked confidently over to the man. “Excuse me, sir, could you please tell me where Main Street is?”
The man just pointed north. “That’s helpful.” Sam muttered. “Well, now we have a sense of where to go.” Lucy said.
“Why don’t we just take a cab? They would definitely know where Main Street is.” Sam suggested.
“No,” Lucy said, “I’m not sure how much this little adventure will cost, so we’re not blowing money on a taxi when we have perfectly good legs and feet, made for walking.”
Sam sighed. They had already been walking for 20 minutes, ad she was getting tired and frustrated. She saw a little old lady picking our apples at an outdoor market. “How about her?” she asked, pointing out the woman. “She seems grandmotherly, she might tell us.” “It’s worth a shot.” Lucy said.
Sam cleared her throat. “Excuse me, could you please point me in the direction of Main Street?”
“You’re on it.”
Sam looked up, and saw that the lady was right. Directly above her, there was a green sign, with the words Main Street printed in large, white lettering.
“Sorry…blonde moment.” Sam said sheepishly.
“Okay, we’re at 652 right now, so 667 would be…that way.” Lucy said, embarrassed that she hadn’t seen the sign.
They headed right, and soon they stood facing 667, a dumpy townhouse.
“Should we knock?” Sam asked timidly. Preparing for this had been fun, but now that they were actually faced with their challenge, they were both quite scared.
“Yeah, I guess.” Lucy said, rapping her knuckles on the split-pea green front door. After 60 second, nobody answered.
“Here, let me try,” Sam said, pounding her fist on the door. It swung open, to reveal the oddest looking man either sister had ever seen. He had wispy, white hair, big, bulging eyes, and was wearing a midnight blue robe. This had to be Merlin.
