Happy

You make me happy.

Like, really happy.

Not the butterflies and world peace kind of happy,

But a happy that makes me think

Toy Story.

And doo wop.

That sort of happy.

Dante’s Divine Comedy and the eighth circle of hell.

Wookies and religion.

Videogames and Indiana Jones.

I picked up playing Super Mario Brothers 3 again because of you,

Then I remembered why I stopped playing videogames a long time ago.

I suck.

You’d think I’d remember the challenges on level four after dying before the first checkpoint five times.

But no. Never me.

I’m just a happy hobbit dubbed as your personal daily planner.

I help you remember things when you see me.

And I like it when you see me.

Because being around you.

It just makes me happy.

You make my day.

Your winning smile and charming personality.

Just smile and I have to smile back.

Crack a joke. I have to laugh.

Complain about your day. I have to listen.

I’ll smile as you talk. No, no. Don’t stop, keep going.

Listening to you rant and rave with your interesting metaphors

And distracted side stories.

It just makes me happy.

You’re sharing this with me.

You sat down next to me

You stopped me on the stairway

You caught me in the foyer

And told me about your day.

You make me feel important.

Me, out of everyone you could have sat down with.

That just makes me happy.

You make me happy.

With shy smiles and doe eyes. Can’t you tell?

That every time you make the sun come out

That every time you help brighten a room

That every time I see you, nothing could go wrong?

Just happy. Oh, so happy.

May the frickin’ force be with you, daddy-o.
