Different

By: Brenli

Is being different good or bad?

Walking down hallways,

Oblivious to stares,

You think she doesn’t care.

Sometimes she does.

She’s happy to be different.

She likes standing out.

Being the eye-catching rarity.

The lovely little lily.

She’s undeniably depressed because she’s different.

She hates being glared at.

Being the satanic tainted spot.

The obscene oddity.

So does she like being different or not?

Hers is a heart that shatters quickly.

Sometimes she gets so stressed it makes her sickly.

“What’s wrong?” They ask.

And she mumbles, “I don’t know.”

Hers is a heart with the strongest core.

Sometimes it’s impossible for her to be sore.

“Freak!” They call her.

And she smiles at the ignorance she sees in them.

That does not answer the question: Does she like being different or not?

She answers, “I don’t know,”

What she means to say is:

“Being different is the best gift I’ve ever been given,

But God! What I wouldn’t give to see if it could be done

Without the harsh words,

Ripping my heart,

Without the cold stares,

Piercing my soul!!

What wouldn’t I do to take away the scars laid upon me?”

SO DOES SHE LIKE BEING DIFFERENT OR NOT????

A better question: Would YOU like being different?

Would YOU like to be the radiant rarity?

Would YOU like to be the sinful stitch in the quilt?

It’s a long, hard, internal war,

But sometimes…

She smiles softly, “It’s worth it.”

Is being different good or bad?

Walking down hallways,

Oblivious to stares,

You think she doesn’t care.

Sometimes she does.
