4am

By : Kana

Tallulah, It's easier to live alone than fear the time it's over
Tallulah, find the words and talk to me, oh, Tallulah,
This could be... heaven

Blinking I look around. Confused. Why is my CD player suddenly playing? Why is there music in my room? It's still dark outside. And it's not my alarm clock; because that one just beeps and it's programmed to wake me up at 10 o'clock. It's Saturday after all.

It takes me another couple of seconds before I realize it is my cell phone. Why would someone be calling me? calling me awake for that matter.

"Hello?"

The sleep can still be clearly heard in my voice.

"Sylvia?"

Looking aside I see the flashy numbers of my alarm clock. 03:58.

"Chris? What is it?"

Of course I'm wide awake now. After all, Chris never calls me. Text messages. Lots of them. But actually hearing him on the phone. First time.

Worried I sit up straight in bed, wondering if his voice trembled when he said my name.

"I'm sorry. I forgot to with you a happy birthday when I saw you yesterday..."

A loud sigh escapes my lips, relieved, and I let myself fall back down.

"You silly boy! Do you have to call me for that now? I wouldn't have mind to wait a couple more hours before hearing you say that."

I try to sound a little angry, however I'm sure he can hear the smile in my voice.

"Of course I had too.. I couldn't fall asleep because I felt so guilty that I forgot ..."

I roll my eyes before closing them and allowing a silly grin to appear on my face.

"Okay. But honestly Chris ... 4am?"

His soft laugh echoes in my ear.

"Yeah, sorry! Sleep tight and sweet dreams."

"Uhu."

A yawn escapes me.

"You too. Oh and Chris ..."

It's funny how I can see his face so clearly before me, in my mind's eye.

"Thank you for calling..."

Another soft chuckle.

"You're welcome. Good night."

Smiling widely I lay my cell phone next to my bed again, knowing that he will appear in my dreams.

Perhaps one day I'll tell him how butterflies roamed through my body when he called to wish me a happy birthday. At 4am ...
