Imaginary.
Everyone wants to write about Alice and Peter.
The thought of an imaginary world,
With pirates and grinning cats and pixies and mad hatters,
It’s all too alluring.
So all the teenage poets hoist up their pens,
And begin down the road, through the doorknob, second star on the right…
Soon enough, Peter and Alice are married off.
And their worlds of chaos and innocence and color collide,
Soon everything is swirled together,
In a mess of lost boys and ill tempered queens.
And the worlds are too confusing; the magic lost.
Peter watches his shadow flirt away with the Cheshire cat,
And Alice cries as all the lost boys drink the tea,
But the writers keep on writing,
And the world is decaying in its kaleidoscope of chaos.
Peter calls for Tinkerbelle,
Mistakes Alice for Wendy,
And Alice begs that she doesn’t know how to fly,
That maybe she’s eaten the wrong mushroom again…
And when the writers tire,
They’ll set their pens down,
And marvel at their nice display of words,
Not noticing the haphazard way they just wrote both worlds,
And Alice will weep as pirates make her walk the plank,
And Peter will claim boys don’t cry as the queen orders his head to be chopped off,
And when Wendy comes back, she’ll ponder what has happened,
If Peter has moved on without her.
Or perhaps she just not in the right world at all.

a/n: i don't aim to insult. especially since i have my own alice-peter marriage written.
