The Reincarnation’s Mistake
Chapter Two: Confirmed
Christian woke up half-naked to a rag being flipped over on his forehead. He slowly sat up. “You’re up,” said a sweet, tender voice. The lady that the voice belonged to stood over him. She was beautiful and had the most gorgeous chestnut hair.
“Wh-where am I…?”
“This is our little cottage. I’m Kaylee, and this is my husband, Darien. He found you outside on the porch. Your leg, head, and arm were all seriously injured… I sewed them up the best I could.”
Christian said nothing. Instead, he looked around the small cottage. He was laid out on the couch, covered by a soft, blue blanket. By his feet laid his bloodstained clothes. He was in bed in his underwear. It was usually how he ended up at the end of the night anyways- he got that habit from Sangoya. She also hated sleeping in clothes, so she almost always fell asleep in her bra and panties- not that Christian minded.
Then a baby began to cry. The chestnut haired woman quickly rushed over to the baby’s side. “Oh, Sangoya, you must want attention,” she said, taking the baby in her arms and swaying her back and forth.
“Sangoya?“ Christian finally spoke, curiosity in his voice.
“Yes, I named her Sangoya. The name just crept into my mind. She was born during the lightning storm earlier tonight- a little while before my husband saw you tumble to the ground. We watched through our window.” She nodded towards the window in the living room.
The baby had settled down now, and the woman made her way over to Christian and picked up his bloodstained clothes with her free arm. “Sorry about having to violate your privacy by stripping you while you were unconscious, but I couldn’t get to your wounds to heal them properly.”
Christian nodded to her. “It’s okay- I appreciate the trouble you’ve gone through for me.” He felt as if he could trust this woman but wondered why she showed so much kindness to a stranger.
“You’re welcome. When my husband saw you, he brought you right in. We have a weakness for that, that’s what you call it. I’m a nurse and he’s the doctor of our little village.” The woman laid the baby in the wooden crib in the living room and proceeded to wash his clothing. Christian watched as the beautiful baby slept.
Sangoya isn’t a common name. It has to be her, there’s no such thing a coincidences in this world… only the inevitable… he thought to himself. When the woman fell asleep, he would make for certain that it was truly Sangoya.
The woman hand washed his clothes in a bucket of warm water and soap on the table towards the back of the house. There wasn’t much to this little cottage, just three rooms- the front room, the bedroom, and the kitchen. Christian was feeling a bit woozy and tired, so he scooted back down, laying with his hands behind his head, and drifting back off into sleep. Sangoya’s words lingered in his mind. “-When I am reincarnated… I’m pretty sure… that it would happen again …”
When he awoke, it was further into the night. The storm had started back up- he heard it going on outside as he wiped the sweat off his forehead. He had a dream about Sangoya again- he kept having a dream about her dying. The dream started out small, and each night, he would get a bit closer to the end of the dream, and every night he would wake up in a cold, hard sweat. Tonight was the end of that horrible dream… so he had thought.
He moved the blanket off of him and swung his legs over so that they met with the cold, hard ground. He looked over towards the silent crib. He heard no cries- she must be sleep. As he got up, he felt the sharp pain in his leg that had been stitched up and quickly sat back down.
“Take it easy…” He heard a soft voice. He looked around and tried to pinpoint the location of the voice. Unable to tell the whereabouts, he gave up and tried to stand again. Succeeding, he took small steps over to the crib, leaning onto it for balance. Surprised, he saw that the beautiful chestnut haired angel was awake and staring up at him with her beautiful brown eyes, watching him curiously. He quickly looked around the room to make sure her parents weren’t around. He lifted up the bottom of the baby’s shirt, seeing what he seemed to be looking for- one of Sangoya’s birthmarks on the left side of her lower back. He gritted his teeth as he saw a bow and arrow there, aimed to up to the right. Then he slowly picked up the baby and checked her right shoulder blade, confirming what he knew was there: a birthmark of a broken heart. Christian gasped as he almost dropped the baby but caught her just in time.
“Nice move- drop her, why don’t you, genius?” said the soft voice from earlier.
“I thought I heard you earlier- are you stalking me now? Where are you?” asked Christian to thin air.
“I guess you don’t want my help. Stay in this sorry world.” The voice turned cold and harsh.
Christian spoke again. “Why do you have to be like that?” There was no answer from the voice or sight of a body either until a few seconds later.
“Put down my daughter- now,” growled an angry male voice as Christian froze in his tracks.
