(Well, here’s chapter 2! Aren’t I speedy? I know how it kills to wait, so I never like to put off writing, though maybe a couple times you’ll see a little gap in between chapters and when I get them up, but I’ll never wait a month or a year to update; so, fear not!
Anyway, read on!)
-----------------------------------
We began to run through the parking lot, as fast as we could, I wasn’t sure about Gabriel but even though I could defend myself, I never liked to kill zombies it just weirded me out; I had always thought it’d be easy since I had seen it done in movies a million times, but I guess acting is easier than you’d think and real-life is harder.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw Gabriel stop, so I stopped as well. Had he been hurt? No. When I looked back at him I saw him, with the hedge trimmers he had gotten out of the back of his truck, clipping off a zombie’s head, then there was a loud crunching sound. He had stepped on it! This guy was disturbing, but I had to admit he was driven to kill. Zombies, that is.
“What are you doing? Don’t just stand there! Let’s go!” He said, and we continued towards the automatic doors of Wal-Mart…
-----------------------------------
When we got inside, I was struck-dumb. Wal-Mart was invested with zombies! There seemed to be twenty or thirty of them, which was a huge downer to the whole murderous mood, but, I guess it’s better than hundreds of zombies, right?
I knew most of these zombies had only wandered in while they were searching for human flesh, since there were very few cars in the parking lot, and most of the cars that had been there were turned upside-down in futile attempts to escape.
“Alright, grab a cart and get supplies as you go. Kill any zombie that crosses your path, then we’ll meet up back here in a little while, ‘kay? Once we meet up we’ll go and sweep the store once more to check if there are any more remaining zombies…” He said, pulling a cart out for himself, then he stepped onto it and pushing his foot forward making the cart reel through a nearby aisle. “Alright…” I muttered, getting a cart as well and doing the same.
-----------------------------------
Have you ever run through Wal-Mart with a cart full of crap and a horde of zombies chasing you? No? You should try it, it’s shockingly fun. I know, I know, you’re wondering how to do this without getting eaten alive.
Well, be fast. Don’t be like one normally is in Wal-Mart, all picky and looking for just the right food. Knock everything off the shelves, chances are the important stuff’ll get in there. Oh, and a tip: don’t go back to pick up the stuff the didn’t make it to the cart, that’s a big mistake.
What to do when approached by zombies while your making your emergency shopping trip: Bash them in the head, it doesn’t matter if that killed them, as long as they aren’t sinking their chomps into your nice, juicy, ol’ human flesh you have little worries. So don’t look back to check if they’re dead, don’t go and hit them more than once, don’t try to get rid of them so you don’t have to worry about being chased, just go on and continue your hunt for supplies.
If you didn’t know this, you are probably an idiot. Either that or you never were ready for the zombie apocalypse and are just REALLY lucky. Luck runs out, remember that.
So, once I finished my killing/shopping spree I went back to the Wal-Mart entrance. Gabriel stood there and it was obvious he had been there for a while, since the automatic door was now blocked.
“Hey.” I said, pushing my cart over by him. “What’s with the barricade?”
“It’s an automatic door, idiot. Zombies can come and go as they please, so I figured while you were taking your time I’d save us the trouble of having to kill every zombie that just so happens to come across this totally accessible Wal-Mart.” He said and I sighed, but didn’t yell at him for his rudeness. He had a point.
“Alright, whatever. So, how are we gonna take out any remaining zombies?” I asked and he grinned.
“Look in my cart and you’ll see.” I raised an eyebrow at him but looked in his cart.
It was the most beautiful thing ever. Weapons ranging from kitchen knives to rifles, this was a gold-mine of murder weapons. It was zombie-killing heaven!
“Well, that answers my question…” I said smiling down at the weapons. “All these tools sure will be a help, nice going, Gabriel.”
“I know, I’m awesome. Don’t need to tell me. Now, let’s finish our zombie killing!” Gabriel laughed, and then he pushed both of our carts aside. “This time we’re not splitting up though, best to stay together most of the time…”
-----------------------------------
“Finally… Geez, who’d have thought that killing zombies in Wal-Mart would be such a chore?” I wondered, sighing as I sat down in a white, now bloody, couch that had once been displayed to Wal-Mart shoppers.
“You’re a wimp.” He muttered, sitting down next to me.
“We’re staying here for the night, right? I don’t feel like going anywhere yet…” I asked and he shook his head.
“Hell no! We have to keep moving! You can stay here but I’m-” He began, then cut off when I closed my eyes and rested my head on his shoulder.
“Please?” I grumbled tiredly. “…I guess, it’s okay for now.” He finally said, taking my bloody shovel and keeping it in his hands.
“Thanks… Wake me up, if there’s any zombies…” Then I began to drift off to sleep. This was the first time I had gotten any sleep in days, I guess it’s just because I don’t have to be afraid of being eaten in my sleep. It was safer than I had ever felt since the zombie apocalypse had begun. So, I guess, in short, it was my own personal heaven, if only for a little while…
-----------------------------------
“Hey! Get off of me and wake up! I hear something!” A voice yelled, and my eyes slowly flickered open as I was pushed away from Gabriel, by none other than, Gabriel the idiot himself!
“Alright, alright! You could be nicer about it, y’know?” I muttered, snatching my shovel away from him as I sat up.
“Yeah, I could be nicer about it, but I don’t feel like it.” He snorted as he stood up. “Now come on, I think there’s more zombies.”
“Nooo….” I groaned standing up and following after him.
“Sorry, I know zombies are such a pain, but look at the bright side, princess...” He began and I raised an eyebrow at him. Was he really trying to make me feel better? “…Oh wait, there is no bright side, never mind.” No, of course not. Why had I even expected something nice to come out of his mouth?
“Die zombie!” Gabriel yelled as we went into an aisle filled with children’s toys. “Hey, stop Gabriel!”
To our surprise, it wasn’t a zombie we had heard, it was a small frightened little girl that had been crying. Wonder how she survived so long alone… “Oh, it’s just a kid…” He muttered, sounding oddly disappointed.
“Just a kid? You really are an idiot! The poor girl is alone and scared!… Are you alright? You aren’t hurt, are you?” I bent down by the frightened little girl’s side and she stared at me with wide-eyes. “No! Get away! Don’t eat me!” She yelled, trying to push me away.
“I’m not a zombie! It’s alright, we aren’t going to hurt you…” I said softly, trying to get her to calm down. “Please settle down, you’re alright… Where are your mommy and daddy? Are you alone?”
The girl was silent for a while then finally she muttered, “I don’t know where they are…”
‘They’re dead aren’t they?’ I thought sighing as I looked at the scared girl. I couldn’t tell her that. “Oh, I see…” I began then took a moment to think of a way to get away from this subject, fearing it may lead to the words ‘they aren’t coming back’. “My name’s May, and this is Gabriel. What’s your name?”
“U-um… It’s Sam. Mommy calls me Sammy though, you can too, if you wanna…” She smiled at me. ‘Good. Glad you aren’t afraid…’ I thought, smiling back at her.
“Well, maybe, if you want to Sammy, you can come with us. We could help you look for your mom and dad…” I suggested and her smile grew. “Okay!… You won’t let the z…z… zomb…zomb…” Sam struggled to say ‘zombies’ correctly and I quickly helped her, “Zombies.” “Yeah. You won’t let them hurt me will you? They’re scary…” She asked, looking up at me. The fear was back in her eyes.
“Don’t worry. You’ll be fine.” I said and Gabriel sighed from behind me. “You’re kidding me! Bringing this kid with us is only gonna slow us down! She’s gonna get k-”
“Shut up!” I glared over at him, then looked back at Sam. “How did you get here Sammy? Did your parents drive you here?”
“Hmm? Oh yeah! Daddy drove Mommy and I here to shop and then the… zombeees attacked us. He told me to hide in the potty with the car keys and then he and mommy went off somewhere. Oh! Then I went to see if they were getting me toys, but I couldn‘t find them anywhere…” Sam explained and I heard Gabriel snicker. ‘How immature…’ I thought, knowing he was snickering at Sam’s use of ‘potty’, she was probably 5 or 6 that’s just what little kids called the bathroom.
“He gave you the keys? Would you be able to find the car if we went to look for it?” I asked and she nodded. “Daddy drives a… um, a big car! I think he called it a V-A-N! A van!”
I smiled at this. Not only because the way she said it was adorable, but a van would be a good thing to put all of our weapons and food in. “Come on Gabriel. We’re gonna get that van!” I said, taking Sam’s hand and standing up.
“What!?… Oh whatever. I don’t really think anything I say matters anymore, anyway.”
