Silver Tongued

.Chapter Two.

I sat quietly in the corner of the cafeteria at lunch and once again, I found my self automatically looking for the new guy, Andre, in the sea of hungry teenagers. My eyes were roving as I sipped my orange juice and in no time, I spotted him. He was wearing a black sweater with silver stripes on the inner part of the hood and he was standing in front of the drinks stall choosing between coffee, soda or juice.

“He picked the fruit juice.” I mumbled to my self.

That reminded me to update my investigation diary. Quickly, I took it out of my pocket and wrote my new findings as fact #6.

There was really something about him that is not normal and I know I couldn't just sit and ignore it. That was why as pathetic, nerdy and stalker-ish it was, I started keeping a diary on facts about him which may help me draw a conclusion later.

...

By the way, I'm NOT a stalker. I'm just one heck of a curious person. Yes?

Kate's Investigation Diary

on

Guy-who-slammed-his-front-door-at-my-face a.k.a. Blue-eyed Devil a.k.a. New guy in town

Fact #1: Has blue-eyes, dark hair, lives in the nice house near the forest. Mysterious. Rude. Doesn't talk much. Sexy.

Source: Personal experience.

Fact #2: There is definitely something more to him.

Possibilities:

Just a really rude guy who thinks he's so hot. (Actually, he really is but it would be better if he doesn't to rub it on other people's faces.)

Vampire (Yes. That would be just cool.)

Werewolf. (Very low possibility. He's not hairy. PERIOD)

Alien. (Very low possibility. He doesn't talk much cause maybe he doesn't know any earth language.)

Source: Personal experience.

Fact #3: Guy-who-slammed-his-front-door-at-my-face, a.k.a. Blue-eyed Devil a.k.a New guy in town, has a name: Andre Lucas Sinclair

Source: Class introduction on his first day of school.

Fact #4: He sits on the seat next to the window. He doesn't seem affected by sunlight. Hence, the possibility of him being a vampire: reduced from 99.9% to 72%.

Source: My own eyes.

Fact #5: He ignores all the girls and guys who show interest in him. Once talked to Alec Dawson for an unverified reason.

Source: Random girls at the lockers.

Fact #6: He dislikes cold drinks and carbonated drinks. He prefers fruit juice.

Source: My ow-

“I was looking for you everywhere! Pam's coming in a minu-- Hey, what's that?” I almost jumped up after Seth suddenly came out of nowhere and grabbed the notebook I was holding while I was still writing on it.

“Seth! Give it back!” I growled in a futile attempt to get my notebook, a.k.a. Investigation diary, back.

He sneered and stretched his arm up with the notebook in his hand disabling me from reaching it. I glared at him – angry that he took my notes and used his height as an advantage.

Quickly, he flipped through and read the contents while looking up. The sneer on his face slowly disappeared and became a scowl. I flushed at his sudden change of expression. He must be thinking I'm such a freak now.

Nonchalantly, he returned the note to me. The straight face lingered on his face for a while before he spoke and it actually gave me goosebumps.

“Kate...” He said in a very, stern tone.

I refused to look at him, embarrassed at what he was probably thinking but I replied anyway. “What?” I asked ensuring that a tone of annoyance was there.

“You don't keep notes like this about me right?” He asked with a face that screams, “I-didn't-know-you-were-such-a-stalker!” before throwing his head back and erupting in laughter.

I glared at him and kicked him in the shin lightly before I retorted, “As if! Don't get the wrong idea. I'm just doing this because...because...Oh, forget it.” I pouted and sank back to the chair thinking about how it would be useless to explain to a guy with 0.01% understanding like Seth.

Seth scooted in the opposite seat and looked at me with the same, stupid goofy smile he always had on.

“Come on, don't be such a baby. I was just joking!” He said.

I rolled my eyes and as I turned away. I once again automatically spot Andre at the table in corner not far away, alone. He picked up his sandwich but after one bite, he had this disgusted expression and quickly slaked down his fruit juice.

“Hmm...” I heard Seth murmur.

“Just what's so great about him anyway?” Seth started to touch his fringe that was just above his eyebrows while he followed my gaze at Andre, “We have the same gorgeous, dark hair. Although I think mine's bouncier.”

I couldn't help but chuckle at what he said. It totally showed what a conceited guy he had always been.

“What?” He pretended to be innocent about it but the distinctive smile on his face betrayed him.

“Okay. You're forgiven. I know you think I'm a stalker but I swear I'm not after him like all those girls...and some guys.” I sipped my drink and crushed the packet quickly afterwards.

“I know you'd think I'm crazy but I'm sure there's something off about him.” I added, leaning in closer.

His green eyes glistened at what I said and he quickly replied, “You think so too?”

I nodded and tried to steal a glance of the mysterious Andre Sinclair again but this time, he was not there anymore. Lunch break ended as the bell rang with Andre nowhere to be seen just like Pamela who never showed up as well.

--

It was raining at the end of the day and I quickly ran to my old, rusty yellow truck which I hope wouldn't act up today so that I could get home without anyone telling me how it might fall apart while I'm on the road.

The rain left me completely soaked and as soon as I got in my car, I found my teeth clattering.

“The notebook!” I exclaimed, realizing that my precious notes on Andre Sinclair was in my jean's pocket.

Immediately, I took out my investigative diary to make sure it wasn't wet. It was damp but otherwise, it was fine. I shoved it in the small compartment before quickly pushing the ignition as I inserted the key. The engine quickly revved up and I was thankful that this day wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

“That was close.” I said with a smile as I drove out of the campus gates.

While I was happily smiling at my self stupidly, I found my self suddenly hitting the breaks at the sight of a bright yellow umbrella ahead. Despite the heavy rainfall cascading on my car's front window and making my vision blurry, I managed to make out an image of a little girl out of the faint figure ahead of me.

She stopped at her tracks and stood by the sidewalk with her two hands holding the yellow umbrella. I stopped by beside her and rolled down the window.

“Umm...Hi.” I managed to mumble while she only looked at me with her beautiful, and unusual expressionless pale blue eyes that were coldly set on me.

“Are you lost? It's very dangerous to be out here on your own in this rain. I almost hit you just now as well.” I was shocked hearing my self say that. I sounded just like my mother!

I looked at her and quickly noticed her striking light white blond hair and exceptionally fair skin. I was sure the little girl before me was not from around town.

“Uh...Sorry if I scared you. I was just--” I paused when I saw her open her small mouth as if she was going to tell me something but before she could say anything, I saw a familiar figure running towards her.

“Don't!” A familiar deep, soothing voice said.

The little girl turned to the direction of the guy approaching and through my side view mirror I was able to discern the figure of a person with dark hair and clad in black sweater and jeans.

“Andre Sinclair...” I gasped at the realization.

I didn't realize that he had his white car parked behind mine. Swiftly, the little girl got on his car. Andre was soaking wet in the rain but before he got on his car, I was sure our eyes just met even though it was only through the side view mirror - and he didn't look happy to see me.

As fast as possible, I rolled the window back up and started the engine as I watch his white sedan drive away before disappearing in to the meandering path ahead.

Ring...

I was oblivious to the ringing of my cellphone even though it had been vibrating in my sweater's pocket because I was still left wondering what exactly just happened. I didn't know whether I should write down that Andre's a kidnapper, a nanny or a pedophile who randomly picks up little girls. Anyway, I shook all the crazy ideas in my head and picked up the call.

“Guess what!!!” Pamela sounded like she was hyperventilating on the other line.

“Where were you just now at lunch? Seth and I were waiting for you for like, forever!” I quickly grumbled.

“I have a very good reason for that! I know you'd love it!” She giggled and I couldn't help but feel hyped up as well.

“Just now I was meeting Mrs. Lewis. And...and...” she paused and I could imagine her taking deep breaths now.

“You know how our group was short of one member?” She paused, “Well, guess what?! She assigned that new guy in our donation drive group! Isn't that just fab?!” She was exhilarated I could tell but I was in shock.

“What?!” I exclaimed.

“Come on! I know he's the guy that slammed the door at your face when we went to distribute the brochures but it was in the past! Okay maybe just a week ago but It's all about the present!” She screamed on the other line but I was still speechless.

Andre Sinclair and me. In the donation drive. Together.

I could already tell how explosive the combination would be.
