Evening of Dryads

Stars glow as

the moon shines

down upon the

umbrous forests of maple and elm.

They flit around

on ethereal feet, laughing and dancing

to the music of the night

as the mortals slumber unaware

The huntress yearns

to join in their revelry

but the fading light

draws her along her path

As she drives across the darkening sky

their lithe bodies gleam

in the cold longing light

of her journey

Swiftly moving across the sky,

the glow of the archer’s chariot

warns them to disperse

into the forests that house them

The trees of young and old

Conceal their precarious run

As they hide from the

roving eyes of the golden archer

Merging with the unmoving giants,

they wait for his path

to take him far from the shadowy forest

of which they dwell

As Selene’s cold light

bathes the forest in a mystical glow,

they slip from their skin of rough bark

and once again frolic in the light of the moon
