lovely how voter turn-out is especially high when gay marriage is on the ballot.
it just seems to mobilise those conservatives to vote when otherwise they'd stay home and do laundry.

because if nothing else moves them to participate in the democratic process, well then,
the chance to go vote against other people's rights sure as fuck does.

it disgusts me.
and angers me.
all the bullshit arguments, like homosexuality is unnatural, immoral, would lead to a reduction of population, would result in people being allowed to marry dogs, etc.

because in the end, you know what? it's none of your business. sorry folks, but like it or not, America is not a Christian nation. and that means who do you think you are to legislate your personal religious convictions regarding an issue that has absolutely nothing to do with you and harms no one?

does is make your feel threatened?
will it lead to the disintegration of your own marriage to know that somewhere, two women or two men may be enjoying a union of equal or greater stability and happiness and of equal legal standing to yours?

"sorry honey, but we gotta get a divorce. gays are gettin' married."

do you call the deprivation of the rights of families who happen to be different from your family family values?

focus on your own damn family.

and the idea of civil unions for same-sex couples? better than nothing, but i'm pretty sure married couples still have a tax advantage. even so. does the idea of "separate but equal" remind you of anything?

oh, and i should mention, this, well, this rant (let's be honest) was spurred by the recent gay marriage election defeat in Maine, if you didn't know about it.

i just really want to know why it's no longer widely socially or politically acceptable to be racist or sexist, while homophobia is still practised and endorsed by religious organisations and religious people. because GOD told you to persecute and be prejudiced and to fuck up the lives of others.

nice. maybe you should get a better god.
