Shades of Red

Author’s Notes: The bold faced names indicate on whose perspective the scene takes place. The characters are all mine. Any similarity should be regarded as coincidence. Hahaha.

Prologue:

Scarlet: I must have the worst of luck tonight.

There are at least fifteen thousand streets in Manila. By some strange play of fate, I am placed here in a single alley in the midst of an unknown environment - a deviation to the usual course that I journey through each and every single day of my life.

I was lusting for a caffeine kick. The only solution to my coffee fixation is the convenience store several blocks away.

What an inconvenience.

***

Rouge: The dark sky was illuminated by the stutters of the stars and the almost non-existent brilliance of the moon. Hidden between the shadows of a huge dormitory and a nearly empty convenience store in the middle of an almost empty street, this little alley is a perfect spot for murder.

I watch from the darkness as a handful of people pass. The area for mistakes is limited – and I don’t intend to make any. An audience for this show is bothersome. When the street was finally empty, I grabbed the hilt from my pocket.

The blade glinted pale silver in the moonlight.

***

Scarlet: There was a sharp scream which disrupted the reigning silence. It was sharp and it stung. It kept on ringing like million ripples of echoes to my ear.

It bothered me.

With a quick gulp, I finished my coffee and rushed to what seems the source of the sound.

***

Rouge: I have done the deed with one swift blow. A cut deep down the throat works wonders. The little prey made its final pathetic attempt at salvation and wailed to the heavens.

I smirked at his feeble attempt. This marks perfection on my list.

Or so I thought.
