Ah, evening, moyashi's!
I though I'd update later than this, but I've been lucky in that I got some done in my free period at school.
Today, you may find somethin out about Dante! (woo, yay 'n' all that.)
Right then, I'm off. Lots of essay to write ¬.¬
I don't remember falling asleep. The last thing I do remember is putting my empty mug on the floor and propping a pillow behind me for comfort. I can feel warm breath on my shoulder but it seems that rational thinking has left me, so I huddle closer to the warm entity that embraces me tightly. I don't know how long I stay like that, with my sanity on holiday. But it is really comfortable. Strong arms wrap around me and pull me closer. Reality seeps back slowly into my head as the minutes tick tock past. I can hear the clock on the wall going click, click, click, and the steady hum of the refrigerator. I can hear the deep, almost silent breathing of mine and Renir's, the dull, echoing thuds of our heartbeats in time like metronome. I slide my eyes open to let light enough to see but not be blinded. I'm facing the black wall, but I can tell that the single curtain is open. A flicker runs through my head, realization that I'm not alone in my bed-again. I switch sides, and see Renir sleeping peacefully with a slight smile playing on his lips. Perhaps he's having a good dream.
But this is enough. I told him to get a sleeping bag, didn't I? I silently fume for a minute before slipping out of bed and doing the toilet shuffle. When I've flushed and brushed and glance at him again, Renir is still asleep. I roll my eyes at him and decide to make breakfast. I'll flame him later. Even if a vampire doesn't eat, won't he want something anyway? He seems that awkward type to me. I place two slices of bread into the toaster and wait. My eyes slide over to Renir's sleeping form. He's so peaceful, relaxed. I find myself gazing at him breathing, the slow, deep rise and fall of his chest.
“Snap out of it, Dante.” I whisper harshly at myself as the toast pings up.
I continue scolding myself whilst I put margarine and chocolate spread on the toast. I feel a pang of caffeine withdrawal. Need coffee. Now. I reach for the jug to find it empty. Damn. I put water in the kettle and beg for it to boil faster.
“Please hurry up.” I plead helplessly. Finally it's boiled. Hurriedly, I put instant coffee (I can't afford anything better) into the maker and pour the water into it. At last. One cup of fresh (sort of) joe.
I glance over at Renir once more. Perhaps I should wake him. I don't know what time he came back last night, since I dozed off fairly swiftly it seems. Pretty soon I decide to take over the toast and coffee. “Hey, wake up.” I set down the plate and cup on the small table beside MY futon. Renir grumbles quietly. “C'mon, you. Wake. Up.” I nudge him and he draws MY duvet around him more. “Fine, but there's toast and coffee if you get up now.” Reasoning usually gets me nowhere, but this time it works.
Renir grumbles again and opens his eyes, clearly not cut out for mornings (no surprise there). He raises himself onto his elbows and looks at me blearily. His chest is bared, I see. Bloody cheek, he has. Not even wearing pajamas! I shake my head at him disapprovingly.
“You could at least be decent if you're living here.” I say as he wakes up a little a sip of coffee. I look at him seriously. “And stop sleeping in my bed! Get a damn sleeping bag already!”
Renir's still half dazed but he responds in a barely recognizable form of English. “Uh-kay. I get it today. Giminute though, yeah?” He is so ungraceful in the morning.
I roll my eyes and nod. But I doubt he will get a sleeping bag today. I'll get one for him. Ooh. That reminds me. I need to check my cash flow to see if I'm broke. I most probably am, though.
“Just make sure you do buy one. No more sharing my bed. Not when you're half naked, anyway.”
The vampire takes a chance and smirks. “What about completely naked?” He is so pushing his luck.
I huff and glare at him. “Just get a sleeping bag. I don't care if it's super fancy or from a dump. That's all I'm asking.” How hard can it be? Not exactly asking him to fight tigers and climb Mount Everest, am I?
Renir pouts and takes a bite of toast whilst I change. At least he has the decency to look away-when I put my boxers on, anyway. Pervert. I'm shoving on my t-shirt by the time Renir's finished his breakfast.
I don't have work today since it's a Saturday. I have weekend off from both of my poor career choices, so I'm happy about that. Because of that, today I'm wearing my black drainpipe jeans and Aiden t-shirt. Super-dooper it is, as they are my favourite band of all time. They've saved my life more than once.
Anyway, off from my clothes and back to the vampire that's in my bed. Well, now getting out of it.
“So you finally decide to get out of my bed, do you?” I say curtly.
He just shrugs, his long black hair cascading down his back. “Not much point staying there when you're not.” He smiles cheekily at my sudden pink face as he takes his plate and mug to the sink.
I sigh. He is a hopeless case. And now he's parading around my apartment in boxer. Great. I start trying to sort out the duvet to at east make it seemly, instead of a pigsty. Renir pours another cup and watches me as I overexert myself and end up trapping my finger in the sofabed's casing.
“Ow!” I cry and suck the end of my finger in a feeble attempt to make it feel better. “Damn, it's bleeding.”
Renir's ears perk up and he waltzes over swiftly. I'm still sucking it so he pulls it out of my mouth as I protest quietly. I think I know what he's going to do, but I'm not sure. The vampire's eyes go red as he puts my finger into his mouth and licks the blood. His eyes lock onto mine as he holds my hand firmly to stop me from wrenching it away.
I cringe and try to pull away from him, but he holds steadfastly. I hear my heartbeat quicken as I watch him, unable to tear my eyes away. I can feel his tongue lapping and fondling the tip of my finger gently. His eyes never waver from mine, not for what feels like an eternity, until he eventually unwraps his lips from my finger and goes back over to the kitchen, acting as though that didn't just happen.
My eyes are glued to him as he makes sips his cup of coffee and seats himself in the chair I brought from the tip. I sit on my half-made sofabed. Renir's very quiet. Too quiet. Why is he not saying crude or beautiful words as he usually does?
I shake my head to get rid of those thoughts and rack my brain for something to fill the silence.
“So...urm, Drake wants to meet you.” I say to my feet. Out of a million things, I choose that? Geebus.
Renir takes a sip from the cup. “Who's Drake?”
“My friend. I work with him at the bookstore.” I begin, not seeing the vampires inquisitive eyes. “We had something to eat after work, that's the reason I was late back, and he wants to meet you.”
“You told somebody I was staying here.” Renir enquired. I expect him to be angry, but no, it's a simple statement that escapes his lips.
I nod and continue talking to my feet. “It's not my fault. He practically interrogated me by force.” I pause waiting for a reply. I get none, so I carry on. “Oh, and I told him you work night. Nothing about you being a vampire, so you're safe from vampire hunters hunters and whatever.”
Renir just laughs in his light but slightly demonic way. “And I suppose you'll call him when I'm free, right?” I bet he can read minds, I was just about to tell him that. “Well, call him as soon as possible. I'd like to meet your...friend.” He seems to savour the last word as though it were a succulent sweet.
I look at him with surprise. “Urh...I'll call him with one condition.”
“Name it.”
“You can't drink his blood. Not ever.”
The vampire looks innocently at me, but nods. “Alright, I won't drink his blood.”
“Good.”
I breath a sigh of relief and stand to get my cellphone from the coat pocket I left near the door last night. I scroll down to Drake's number and hit the call button.
“C'mon, pick up. Pick up.” I mutter impatiently.
Drake eventually answers. “Dante? What is it? Could it wait? I'm in the middle of wallpapering.”
“Oh, sorry.” I say quickly. “I'll just be a sec, anyway. Renir's free tonight if you want to meet him.” I can feel Drake smile down the line.
“Great. What time should I come round?”
I look over at Renir to silently ask him what time. He puts up six fingers.
“Urm, he says around eight. And dinner's here as well if you're interested.”
“I hope Renir's cooking.” Drake says cheekily. “When I last had dinner around yours I almost died from food poisoning!”
“Hey!” I retort. “It says six minutes! Not sixty!” I grumble just to seem unhappy, bu tI know that both Renir and Drake know I'm kidding. In fact, Renir seems a little jealous, unless I'm seeing things.
Drake hangs up after we both say our goodbyes and I put my phone in my jeans pocket.
Renir asks me something, something I don't quite expect.
“You like him, don't you?” H says almost threateningly.
I shove a trainer on. “He's my best friend.” I shrug.
But the vampire presses further. “You know what I mean. I saw how your were talking to him on the phone. Like a girl with a crush. You like him.”
I roll my eyes and tie up my laces. “Like I said, he's my best friend. Nothing more. Just leave it,okay?”
Renir narrows his eyes at me and stands to get dressed. “You want more.” He mutters loudly, hardly trying to be discreet. Yet I ignore him and walk towards the front door. I pause and change the subject completely before leaving.
“What are you going to be cooking? Since it seems that Drake doesn't want me to.” I ask, picking up a pen that lay scattered on the floor. “And you can't go out in sunlight.”
I hear a chuckle as the vampire pulls a black t-shirt over his head and ponders for a second. “Hmm...I think cooked salmon would be nice.” He buckles his belt on his jeans. “Could you get fresh salmon and salads.” Renir counts on fingers like a list that I write on the back of my hand. “Oh, yeah, and some brownie mix and ice cream.”
“Chocolate...brownie...mix...” I repeat as I jot it down and slip the pen in my pocket. “Okay. See you later.” I say a wave out of habit at the now smirking vampire as I close the front door behind me, then start down the stairs.
R&R 'n' all that! ta!
