3333333 Mission Improbable 3333333

Maybe there are times that I didn’t want to live, the mere seconds. Or better put, maybe just disappear for a while, you know like when you get in to trouble and can’t escape the inevitable. I wish I had that ability, to just be invisible and wait till everything cools off. Well, now would be the right time…

Right now wouldn’t be so bad.

I mean after all, I snuck out of my father’s house only to be tracked down by his two “good friends”.

And here I was, waiting outside his office on a Monday morning, missing school just so he could yell at me since he was too tired to do so last night.

Good for him, because I wasn’t in the mood for it either.

The hallway was empty, except for the little blonde receptionist who wore nothing but red suits to work and a very bright red lipstick. She was filing her nails on her desk, clearly ignoring me. The room was very white. There were no marks on the white carpet and the white table before me was shiny. Even the plants were white which made me question if they were real. I leaned back on the white chair watching the clock tick by. If this was his way of making me wait for my punishment, then so be it. I just wished time would hurry up.

The door opened and out walked two very pale ladies. When they saw me, they narrowed their eyes at me. I glared at them.

“You must be the little one?”

My glare deepened. I hated that name, being called little one. Who did they think they were?

One of the ladies smiled, “Tsk tsk tsk, you are a powerful one. Your scent is much too…delicious.”

I knew what she was talking about. My father mentioned to me before that I had a sort of attraction to vampires. Not that I was attracted to them cause I saw through they’re very flaws. I learned that they saw that as a threat, seeing not only seeing their “true” beauty but their strength as well.

But being around dad and his cohorts, I learned a lot of things that I wasn’t supposed to know. Whenever I saw his clients, ( I don’t know them but they sure do know me, more than I know about myself!) They would call me a poison to them, but I wasn’t exactly sure why. So I asked dad but he would just wave it off.

But since last night, I knew what threat I was to them, their entire race. And the truth was so horrible that I knew I had to get away from them, or they would kill me if they knew I was in the wrong hands. And right now, me being with my dad and their reaction to it confirmed that they were watching my every move.

“I wonder why your father won’t just hand you over to us” the other said. “Let us meet out your punishment.”

“You face is enough punishment as it is” I spat out.

That wiped the smiles out their face. But I smiled in triumph.

Before they could make me into vampire food, (like I already wasn’t). out walked my dad with a stern look on his face. The ladies back off easily, casting me a hungry look. He glanced at them before they left. Then he turned to me and fixed his icy gaze at me. I glumped in air as he gestures me inside his office. I obediently followed him inside as the door closes behind me. He motions for me to sit on the chair.

Dad leaned on his desk and crossed his arms.

“Good morning Father” I said in my most polite voice ever. “How was your meeting with the vamps?”

He glowered at me, “do you realize what I went through last night trying to look for you! I even had to ask them for help,” He spit out the word referring to the vampires. He didn’t like them too much, he was always suspicious of their activity. “And most certainly, I didn’t want to tell your mother.” He made it seem as if it was my fault she was my mother to begin with. I shifted uneasily in the chair as he continued to glower at me. “Naturally she found out, and I’m trying to find out how, and she’s on her way here.” My mom and dad were divorced two years ago and since my dad owned a company and therefore had a substantial amount of income, the court saw it right that I was to live with him. My mother was a veterinarian and was trying to fight to get me back. They weren’t exactly on the best terms.

I raised my brows, “when will she come by?” I wasn’t too fazed at how she knew. I had a weird feeling that I was up to my prank calls last night. Somehow I must’ve accidentally called my own mother. Whoops.

“I’m sorry for what-”

“Save it Cheryl. Do you realize what you put me through. I was worried about you! Goodness you’re turning 18 in a couple of weeks and you already making risky moves. Do you ever think about your actions? Think what it does to me! Think about how others look at me!” He flung his hands in the air and paced around the room. “When the Child and Families Services asks for a monthly report on you, how am I going to explain to them that you took the limo for joy ride last week.”

I sank down into my chair. All dad cared about was his image to his clients.

He wasn’t finished, “I thought for sure they’d take you away from me. Now this! Mind you it wasn’t cheap to find you. Those bounty hunters were doing me a favor looking for you in the city. Do you even have half an idea what goes around at night!”

I had a pretty good idea what goes bump in the night because it walks stalks in your office. But I didn’t say that, Dad was just too mad for snide remarks at the moment. Right now, the safest thing to do was to keep quiet. “Anyways, your mother Is coming over to make sure you’re alright.” He ran his hands over his brown hair, “She better check out a hotel if she’s bringing company.”

I assumed dad was talking about reinforcements, like how he had his own ring of friends, so did my mom. The phone suddenly rang. Dad turned around instantly and picked it up, keeping his voice low. I strained to hear snippets of the conversation but he moved away, toward the window behind his desk. So I let my eyes rove around the office which was a complete opposite from the setting outside his office. The walls were a chocolate coated color and the chairs were black. It was probably set up for his clients, which were mainly the vamp population. To my right was an untouched book case with pictures hanging from either side. The pictures posted were of him and his clients of opening restaurants, designed for people and vampires. Not in the way to feeding the humans to vampires- NOOO. It was more like a place for a way to meet some, with more of business handling or more. It was all my dad would tell me.

I stopped when I saw a face I recognized. He was smiling, but it didn’t reach his eyes. He stood beside my dad, a head taller than him. Despite his tan complexion, he was pale from the flash of the camera and his dark eyes shined. I only saw him but never really introduced myself to him, but I had a feeling he knew of me. He was one of the vampires that I couldn’t see through or guess his age. You’d have to be really old and powerful to not get detected under my radar to keep up a front like that. I could see past regular vamps but this one was a tough one.

I wasn’t surprised if Dad was close friends with him. I only met him once and all he said to me was that I was a danger to his race, so I should be very careful of whom I cross paths with. I wasn’t exactly sure how to take that.

My attention snapped back to my dad who was using his angry voice on the phone.

“- I am asking for two weeks. What’s the rush? You’ve been waiting for 17 years! What’s the difference in of two weeks?”

He fell silent, tapping his foot impatiently.

“Are you insane? I can’t make it tonight.”

Silence.

He glanced behind him with a grim look. “So you’ve already told her huh? I guess I can take her with me. Are you sure about this?”

After a minute dad hung up and sighed. He didn’t turn around and after awhile of waiting in silence, I was sure he forgot I was in here.

“Hey dad, what’s up?” I asked quietly.

He wouldn’t look at me so he kept his back facing me. His shoulder went stiff. “Looks like there’s been a change of plans.”

I frowned in puzzlement, “what do you mean?”

“I hate werewolves” he muttered under his breath. “Your mother called in a meeting with our lawyers. Someone must’ve tipped the Judge about last night. The judge will be there as our lawyers and more. ”

So?

He sighed again. “Just go to school.”

I left right away.

I heard the door close shut behind me. Without another look behind me, I gathered my books and my bag and walked out the office. Before I made it out the room, I heard the secretary call out, “Missy! Your mother is waiting for you outside!”

I nodded, “thanks” and ran out. I don’t know what was going on, with the Department of Children and Family Services. And if the judge was involved then that couldn’t be good either. Dad was infuriated telling by the stiffness of his shoulders. There was a reason why he wanted me to stay with him and not live with mom.

I didn’t want to have to go through another custody battle. Why was it so important that they had to fight over me when I had two weeks left to actually be released from the system? Then I could visit them whenever I wanted to. And they wouldn’t have to fight anymore. We could be like a family all over again.

I walked outside, met by a cold breeze on my face.

And then an excited shriek.

“Cherry!”

I winced at the nickname as I watched a lady run across the street with arms wide open. Her arms wrapped around me and she tightnened her hold. “Cherry my baby.”

“Hey mom” I said weakly.

She pulled back and her eyes scanned me, “Bruce told me what happened. Are you ok?”

I nodded, “yup.”

Her browns eyes lit up and she brought me into another hug. “Oh hunny, I’m so glad you’re okay. I have so many things to tell you.”

“I have to go to school-“

“No way. I already switched you out. You’re coming with me” She took my hand and smiled, “we have a lot to catch up on.”

I opened my mouth to object but then closed it when I looked past her. A tall man with his arms crossed leaned against a white car. He had on a leather jacket and his jeans hugged his firm legs. His black hair hung just below his shoulders and from afar I could tell his eyes were a deep blue. He had a strong jaw and slight five o’clock shadow. But there was something wild about him, his eyes were wild. I started breathing fast remembering the last grueling encounter with a wolf.

My mom must’ve noted the fear on my face cause then she took my face in her hands. “Honey, he won’t hurt you. I don’t know what Bruce has been telling you about lycans-“

My heart skidded. The last thing I wanted to stuck with was a lycan. My dad wasn’t very fond of werewolves so he told me stories of them when I was little. He made vampires look more civil than werewolves. He never let me near a werewolf, so it was a kind of shock to see one.

“They’re actually peaceful-”

I looked at her like she was crazy “creatures.”

“Why don’t you just introduce yourself” She suggested, “I’m right here don’t worry.”

I shook my head. There was no way I was going to sit in the same car with a wolf. “I can walk.”

“Don’t be like that” she said, hooking her arm to mine, “besides he was actually looking forward to meeting you.”

I stayed where I was, until mom had to literally pull me across the street. And I wasn’t going anywhere near him. “Mom, I can take a cab. Let me take a cab.”

“But you won’t know where to go.”

“I’ll tell the cabbie to follow you.”

“You’re making this difficult on yourself you know.”

“I think I have a real good reason to Mom, since I almost was eaten by one!”

She froze and turned around. I looked past her to the guy and noticed he was coming our way. I pulled my arm out of moms grasp and stepped back, terrified. It seemed as if each step he took, he was bigger and bigger. I could see the hunger in his blue eyes.

“Stay back” I told him in a shaky voice.

He stopped surprisingly and looked at my mother with a questioning look. My mother bit her lip and asked him if he could start the car knowing I wouldn’t move from shock.

She turned back to me, “Cheryl, I’m gonna need you to grow up and just face it alright? It was incredibly nice of him to drive me up here so we can get you. I’d appreciate it if at least you give him the benefit of the doubt.”

I glared at her. Was she seriously standing up for the animal? But I agreed as the car wheeled around to my side. Mom slid in and looked at me. I opened the door, keeping a close eye on him while sliding in the car. I stayed as humanly possible away from him, watching him warily.

The atmosphere in the car was unbearable. It was as if I wanted to jump out but I knew better than to jump out of moving car. I wasn’t aware where we were headed and I knew for sure that he was going to be there the whole entire time.

“Would you stop that,” My mom said, getting frustrated by the second then she sighed. “It’s not your fault. I suppose your father had something to do with you acting this way.”

My eyes darted at her, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

The man stifled a laughter. Mom threw him an icy look and he cleared his throat trying to hide that laughter.

“If I may Adry” he spoke.

I lifted my brow at mom’s nickname. Dad used to call her that.

“I know what happened to you Cheryl and I’m very sorry that your first encounter with our kind was like that. But there are those who are peaceful, like myself, and we all want to live good lives. I want you to be aware of the good side of us. There shouldn’t be no hostility toward humans and lycans alike. I hope you can understand where I’m, coming from with this.”

I blinked at him.

He turned his head and winked at me, “don’t worry, I won’t let anything happen to you. My word.”

“I don’t need your protection” I snapped, “I can take care of myself.”

He turned his attention back to the road. “I’m sure you can.”

“And remember that” I glared at him, “I know things that you’d be surprised of mister.”

“Thanks for letting me know that Cheryl” he said with a hint of sarcasm, “and my name is Chase.”

Funny, and I was thinking about running away.

Again.

Hello All! As you can see, Cheryl isn't too fond of wolves, and detail about why she ranaway will be revealed in the next chap. I had a few questions regarding about her. What is she exactly? Hints about that will come up in the next chapter. Thanks for the reviews and the faves and etc.... I appreciate it all.
