WHAT A HEART IS MADE OF

Long ago before

It was definite

That hearts should be

As much of a part of humans

And the other creatures

That sheltered them

As their flesh and bones

They tried to decide

One called out that

Stone

Was invincible, never to rot or rust

But once that was

Tried they

Realized it was to cold

And unloving

Next it was shouted

Cloth

It gives warmth and modesty

But it was weak

Easy to tear

And take advantage of

Easy to hurt

Wood

Seemed the perfect choice

It was tough

And warm

Durable and smooth

Then they recognized

That with age

It would become rotten

And bitter

So the last person

Called out

Let it be

Flesh

It is warm and it is durable

But it can go cold

And it can break

But it can be protected

Let those who

Shelter these hearts

Choose how

To keep it safe

And let them choice what

Element to

Have it made from

Whether

They want it to rot

Or be unwelcoming

And cold

Or weak and

Torn

Let them choose

Flesh

Wood

Cloth

or

Stone
