The Life and Times of Bobby

Dark eyes stared at little Bobby as he crawled away from the bushes in the back yard.

He felt them dig into his back, burning into his soul, as he ran towards his house.

When he got into the light he felt the bad spirit burn away, but he continued running.

He grasped his dad's leg, tears on his face, as a bad memory was born.

Years later, Bobby would get a career as a detective, now he was the eye in the bushes he would think.

Years of talking to people about their missing pets, property, kids, or spouses, even a mom or two.

Bobby felt the years grow down on him, as his job became incredible repeats of itself.

Twice he was shot, and only once did he almost lose his job, in forty-three years.

He would come back to his old backyard, where he ran so far away that day.

Never had he realized until this very visit, that the bushes were open where he had seen the dark eyes.

The utility shed had stood there, in that very spot, hiding old tools and dead appliances.

But his mother always had a mirror lying on that open spot that would spy out between the brush.

Bobby laughed, and laughed harder even as he realized it was he who had shaped his life.

Bad memories became good ones, and Bobby realized it had always been he who shaped his future.

And as he laughed so hard, in his old backyard.

Bobby had a heart attack and died.
