Chapter Three

"So, Bree what do you think of being my Maid of Honor in the wedding?" Kayla had asked me as I finished my soup. I was getting tired of her asking and telling me about her wedding.

"Sure." I said with as much enthusiasm as I could offer.

"Great! You'll wear this beautiful pink dress." She held up a picture, and her and my mom gushed over it. Pink was so not my color. "What do you say, Bree?" she looked at me, waiting for an answer.

"When do you ever see me wear pink?" I asked rubbing my temples. Couldn't she tell I was in no mood for this?

"I saw you wearing pink on that hoodie." Kayla said, pulling out fabric samples of different shades of pink.

"That had black stripes along with it. I don't wear pink, like that." I pointed to the disgusting rectangles laying out in front of me.

"Well, it's just for one day, my day." She said, sounding annoyed with me. I couldn't wait for her wedding to be over with, it was all getting annoying. I reached over and grabbed the picture of the dress, and stared at it for a while. It was a pink strapless dress, that 'puffed out' at the bottom, almost like a tutu, and it had designs of a darker pink around the bottom of it. Oh, weren't my friends going to get a kick out of this? I put the picture back on the table, grabbed my dish, and headed to the kitchen.

"Have you taken anymore medicine?" My mom asked me, looking through all the papers Kayla was piling on the table.

"I took Nyquil after they sent me home."

"Are you feeling any better?" Kayla asked, with an attitude.

"I don't recall you being my mother.” I retorted. Kayla and I never got along. We were the opposite of every sister.

"Girls, knock it off, please. Bree, take Tylenol for your headache, and Kayla just take it easy." Before Kayla could respond, Tyler came up from behind her and wrapped his arms around her, she basically squealed. Sometimes love was cute, but seeing those two, it made me want to hurl.

I did as my mom told me and went upstairs to my room. It was the only place that was quiet, and where I could keep myself somewhat sane. I turned on my radio, and drowned out the sound of wedding plans. I didn’t think I would be able to handle another question about a wedding. I would freak out soon enough.

----------

I was in my closet, picking out an outfit for tomorrow, when I heard someone yelling. I couldn’t make out who it was, or what they were saying, I was preoccupied.

"Bree!" They had screamed on top of their lungs, and I jumped. I looked at the clock that read that it was ten. This family didn’t believe in being quiet after dark.

"What!?" I asked, annoyed.

"Where are you?" I realized it was Kayla, the one voice I didn't want to hear right before I go to bed.

"Right here." I stepped out of my messy closet, finding her in the doorway.

"What were you doing?" She walked in, and sat on my bed, without my permission. I hated when she did it.

"I was trying to find an outfit for tomorrow." I tried to sound normal, not aggravated more so than I already was.

"Oh. Well, what do you think of the dress? Should I change it for you? Because I did see the look on your face when you saw the picture.." Her voice trailed off. It caught me off guard. Would she really change the dress, just for me?

“You would change it, just for me?" I sat in the bean bag chair that was across from my bed, I was more interested than ever before.

"Well, I talked it over with Tyler. He told me it wouldn't be right to not include you in the plans, especially since you're my Maid of Honor, and not to mention my sister. And I realized I've been making all the decisions without anyone else's likes or dislikes, just mine."

There was only one reason why I liked Tyler; he knocked some sense into Kayla.

"Oh, really?” I asked, smiling slyly.

"Yes. So, starting now. Tell me what dress you like, and what style, and color, and all that. But, please, no dark colors?" She looked at me with her brown eyes, pleading.

"Okay. But, no pink, like that?" I pointed to the sample, that she laid across my bed.

"I guess I can deal with that."

"Where are you having the wedding, first?" I asked, curious.

"I--", my eyes narrowed, "Tyler and I have thought about having it at our church." She finished, and I remembered the church she was talking about.

"Huh. Why not the beach? You both love it." I suggested.

"You know what--Tyler! Come here, babe." I flinched.

"Yeah?" He came in, eating an apple. It was so typical for him.

"Bree suggested us having our wedding on the beach, because we both love it." She smiled, loving the idea.

"That's great! Why didn't we think of it before? What about your dress?" Her head dropped as she looked at the picture of her dress. It was long, white, and strapless. Before she could doubt herself, I jumped in.

"You can always, get the same dress, only shorter. Or, something close to it." I saw her face brighten. I was happy now, that I was helping. Tyler seemed happy to; he had an even bigger smile on his face.

"Now, what about the colors of the bridesmaid dresses?" Tyler asked, in between his chewing.

"How about red?" I asked, before Kayla could answer, "And your dress white."

"I love it. Be a wedding planner when you grow up, honey." She said, writing all the plans down.

I laughed, and continued with the plans. It felt good, to finally get along.
