A girl. Waist-length platinum blond hair. Tall and skinny. Sandaled foot. But she’s not wearing sandals today. Flat shoes. She walks as if nothing is wrong in the world. But she’s a monster. A monster with hidden sandaled feet. Oh, those sandaled feet, those bony monsters wrapped in decaying animal hide; murderers! A wolf in sheep’s fleece, a fiend in bull hide, maybe even snake skin, if she’s rich.
Is she also jealous? Are the green monsters of her eyes (they are green, very green in fact) aware of my ardent worship of that beautiful autumn leaf? A monster, a monster, a jealous monster!
Oh, how jealousy brings out the worst in everyone. But jealous she must be, because here she comes, so close, so close. Why is she walking this way?
Is she trying to walk past me? Why? What’s there behind me? Nothing but a wall—oh, shelves. Shelves with leaves. So many leaves! Leaves of so many colors! Where did they come from?
Oh, so beautiful and pristine! Immaculate, all unlike one another! But how? How can they possibly match the beauty of my dear lost beloved one?
And yet they seem to have achieved the impossible. Each leaf is a different shape, faintly glittering with the life remaining from their lives on their trees. Each leaf is made up of different colors, yet at the same time all seeming to adhere to some sort of theme. Ah, the beauty of nature.
But wait! What am I thinking, so soon after the untimely death of my one and only? The sun of my day, the star of my night, the one reason I have endured my dreary existence in this world for so long! Unfaithful? Never!
The shock is bringing my surroundings back into focus, and what is this in front of me? The monster? The murderer? The heartless, wrathful, malicious demon standing in front of me with a look of disgust? Her voice seems to be floating in the air around me, but what is she saying? Am I in her way?
Her bright green eyes glimmer as her face contorts into a fake smile. Oh, how horrible! A murderer, spiteful wench! Is her smile fading? Does she detect my fear from my stone face?
Run! Run from her! She will kill you, just like she did your love! Don’t hesitate, just run! A door, an enemy! Trying to block my way? Out of the way, you horrid creature! I must not follow in the footsteps of my precious leaf without avenging you first! Run away!
