Part 1
His red hair covered his sad green eyes as they looked down upon his sister. His dearest Twin. He knew this day would come. They both did. Now that it was here, he was completely filled with grief.
“Don’t worry Galen, I’ll be alright. The Goddess will protect me.” came her raspy voice. Her fifty-fourth birthday was in a week and she wouldn’t be here to celebrate it with him like every other year.
“It’s too early for you to leave me.” he chocked on his words and stopped himself from saying anything more. He still looked as young as he did when they defeated Drake. A startling contrast to his sister. She had aged and with age, came disease. His dearest twin had developed breast cancer not three years ago and by the time they caught it, it was too late, it had spread too quickly.
“I’ll wait for you, Galen.”
“That could be a very long time from now, hon.”
Her grin turned into a wince as she replied, “It’s not like I’ll die waiting.”
At any other time, the elder twin would have shared her humour but as the doctor told them, she barely had a half hour left.
“Why did you refuse chemotherapy? You could have lived a few more years… with me.”
“I’d only be prolonging this, my sweet.” she reached a tender, shaking hand to his cheek and smiled. “I’m happy.”
Gripping her hand in his, he bowed his head and took a deep breath. It was hard for him to say but he got it out. “I’m happy,” he looked back up at her, tears brimming his eyes. “if you’re happy.”
“Don’t forget me, Galen.”
“You know I couldn’t even if I wanted to.”
“I know.”
They stayed silent for a few minutes, enjoying the rest of the time they had together.
“Twin?”
“Yes, Nadia?”
“I love you.” he didn’t get a chance to reply to her. Her hand went limp and the smile she had on her face relaxed into a peaceful expression as her heart stopped.
The tears fell freely from Galen’s eyes now. “I love you too, my dearest sister.”
