“You want me to kiss you, right?”
These were the words that she had desired and dreaded for so long. They were the words that would make or break her. Three long months she had waited and danced around in circles with him, flirting together and wishing he would just go that little big further every time he hugged her, and ask the question she so desperately wanted to hear. And now, lying on the uncomfortable little bed beside him, she felt butterflies swarming her stomach as he looked at her intently, waiting for her answer to his question.
Her breath caught in her throat when she opened her mouth to answer. “I… I don’t know,’ she choked out, unable to say exactly what she wanted from him.
“I like you very much,” he said seriously, leaning back against the cold wall.
She stared at his face for a moment, taking in his beloved features. His strong brow was set as if questioning her, his lips slightly parted, as though he were waiting for her to say yes so that he could claim her mouth in a kiss. She let her eyes wander. At some point during the early hours of that morning, he had shed his shirt and was clad only in his jeans. She had given him a back massage. They had been drinking over five hours earlier, so she couldn’t even blame the alcohol they had imbibed for their current conversation.
“I have liked you for a very long time too,” she replied quietly. She wanted to yell at him that she loved him, but it was too soon for any such proclamation.
“I’m so glad that I met you that night on Eve’s birthday,” he admitted to her with a smile. “I was attracted to you the moment I first saw you at Friday’s.”
“I’ve liked you since that night too,” she said in return. “I was so afraid that you didn’t – you were always so hot and cold, dancing around me in circles… and when we went to the beach a couple of weeks ago, you were almost mean to me.”
“I didn’t mean to seem like I didn’t have feelings for you,” he told her. “I just wasn’t sure that you liked me very much. You always seemed a little distant.”
She nodded. “I didn’t mean to come across that way at all,” she said quietly. “I have just had my feelings hurt too many times. I’m not sure I could handle something like that again.”
He nodded and threw an arm over her, pulling her tight to his bare chest and hugging her close. He was very warm and his heartbeat was so strong that she could feel it thudding against her own chest every time. She inhaled deeply, breathing in his scent. He smelt of dark chocolate and something else distinctly sharp and male. It was intoxicating. She knew that he had listened to her a couple of months earlier when she had told him that everyone needed to have their own scent, and had gone out and bought some cologne.
“You smell good,” she whispered, nuzzling closer to him and smelling him again.
“So do you,’ he replied, dropping a light kiss onto her head.
She smiled. He often told her that she smelt nice. He was sweet to her a lot of the time, but there had been a few times when she wasn’t sure he liked her very much at all when he had been acting very cold towards her. That was the nature of their entire friendship – hot one moment and cold the next. But at that very moment between them, she was fairly certain that it was hot. She felt him shift a little then so that he was lying on his back, and that her head was on his chest, both of his arms wrapping around her tightly.
They remained that way for a few minutes. It seemed to drag on for an age. The darkness of the sky outside was already beginning to fade to a lighter shade of grey which meant that the sun was about to rise. She propped herself up on her elbow, looking down at his face. His eyes were closed and his breathing deep, but she could tell that he was awake still. His heart beet gave him away. As if he could sense she was staring, he peeked one eye open at her and flashed a smile at her.
Without speaking, he shifted his arms, letting one hand drift up into her hair, cupping the back of her head. She didn’t resist then, as he gently drew her head down so that their noses touched, and the lips were so close that their warm breath intermingled. She felt warmth spread through her, reaching all the way to her toes and making her tingle and shiver with anticipation. His eyes searched hers as though her were trying to ask her for permission to claim her lips.
“Can I kiss you now?’ he whispered, his words ghosting over her lips as though he was already kissing her.
“Please,” she tried to reply, but the end was muffled by his lips.
She could only feel his mouth then. His warm lips were over hers, and he gently sucked on her bottom lip, tenderly exploring her mouth. She wished she had thought to apply more lip balm earlier in the night because she knew her mouth to be a little chapped from the cold that she was just getting over. She had only ever kissed one boy before this, and it had been a mere friendly peck on the mouth. This, however, was very different. His urged her to return his exploration, and she let her tongue sneak out to lick his bottom lip.
His moan at that was an amazing sound. She had never considered herself being capable of causing a man to elicit a sound like that in her life. His hands moved then, from holding her waist and her head, to both rubbing her hips and bringing her closer to him. He was a man, after all, and there was only so much torment he could go through before he would begin to want more. She didn’t care though. All she wanted was for him to keep kissing her the way that he was.
He let her take a breath before he was kissing her again, pressing his tongue between their mouths and licking the seam between her lips to beg for entry. She opened to him and allowed him to explore. She had never felt weaker at the knees. The sensation of the slippery organ sliding about and rubbing against her own tongue was strange and new to her, but she liked it very much. She liked it even more that it was him that she was sharing this first moment with.
She had a feeling that she would sharing a lot of first moments with him in the future.
By the time that they had ceased to share in the gentle exploration with one another, the sun had already risen and was already well on its way to reaching its peak in the sky. Neither of them slept that night, but she did not regret a moment of it.
He had, after all, given her the most perfect first true kiss.
