Monica- Beauty Kassie- Affection

The Scarlet crystal

Preface

Affection. Beauty. Wealth. Power. We all crave something in this world. Our different situations put us in different places and silently form us into who we are. Everyday we go down a different path hoping it will lead us to what we really want in life. There are forces that will stop us and forces that will help us. Your Life, my life, her life, his life. It’s all a mystery. Figure it out.

Chapter One

Kassie hopped off bus 51, tears steaming down her face. Yet another horrible day at school full of teasing, ruthless comments, backstabbing friends, and name calling. Her tears were invisible to others. She wondered if the bus driver even knew she got off at this stop.

She also wondered if the people at school would ever grow up. For 13 and 14 year olds they were about as immature as monkeys who swore and loved sick jokes. That’s exactly what they were to Kassie. Kassie didn’t care anymore. She had always been nice, she never caused a scene, yet the kids at school prevailed to “bullying” her. Kassie hated the word bullying. She thought relentless torture was a more appropriate term.

But Kassie didn’t want to think about them any more. She cleared her mind and slugged up her winding path to her house. She felt safe there. She had a good family and a nice house. It was big and sat in its own corner of the world, away from all the chaos. Her dad had put tons of money into renovating the old house that he inherited from his great uncle. Bottom line was, Kassie loved where she lived.

Winded, she reached the top of the hill and barged through the front door. Her fat cat Cherri was there to great her with a welcoming meow. Kassie scooped her up and gave her a hug.

“Hey Honey, Have a not-so-good day today?” her mother said noticing her daughters tears.

“Yeah but I’ll survive. Everyone at school was a total idiot today.” she replied.

“Wanna talk about it?” her mom asked.

“Not now. I am going to go out back for a swim. Kay?”

“Sure thing, sweetie”

She went upstairs to change into her swimsuit. Kassie loved the spring weather. It was a indicator that school was almost coming to an end. Within minutes Kassie found herself sitting at the edge of her diving board, feet dipped in, and staring into the water. She thought about the day. How her “friend” Kayla had said some nasty things to her. How Bobbi called her a worthless loser. How Tori said that heartless comment to Melissa about her.

Kassie knew despite all the bad people in her life, that she did have true friends. Well only one or two she could count on. Not including her best friend 15 miles away. But that wasn’t enough. She wanted to be loved by everyone. She wanted to be that girl with tons of caring friends, who all the boys wanted to date. With a whole social network holding her up. But she wasn’t.

Kassie wished she was someone else. She wished she was somewhere else. That she had a purpose.

All of the sudden Kassie caught a glimpse of something. It was scarlet red in the bottom of the pool. It looked like a crystal and had millions of sun rays beaming off of it.

A wild idea popped in her head. Kassie had once read in one of her nerdy fantasy magazines about the legend of the scarlet crystal. It was said that if one of the “chosen ones” got a hold of it and held it in both hands they would be transported into the perfect world and their most desired wish would come true. Kassie laughed at herself. Was she really going to believe that crap? But what else did she have to do besides go diving for legendary stones she was imagining?

So she dived into her pool, the cold water awakening all her senses. She got the crystal in one swift scoop and pushed herself back up to get air. When she opened her eyes, she wasn’t in her pool anymore. She was in a small pond. She turned around and gasped at what she saw. A beautiful castle lay behind her that was 2 times the size of any mansion she had ever seen.

“Where am I?” she thought to herself as she took in her surroundings. She was surrounded by bushes and trees. She saw a path lay ahead. She figured it went to the castle.

“Ahhh, My princess has finally arrived” a squeaky voice from behind her said.

She turned around and saw squirrel behind her. He was very plump and had chestnut colored fur.

“What? Who are you? Wait you’re a squirrel! You can’t talk! Where am I? I must be dreaming!” Kassie blabbered like she did when she wasn’t sure about something.

“Come with me, Sweet-thang and I will explain it all” he said with a wink.

Author’s Note: This story is basically something I have started to get my mind off school. It’s probably really boring right now, but it will get better. If you made it this far, will ya please review? Oh and I am writing this late at night so there might be a few errors, even after I proof read it.
