The sheepdog.
Oh, how the sheep all hated that dog.
It scared them into turning right, left
and tricked them into the barn.
The sheep knew nothing but to obey
its nonverbal demands: Run, run
And they all run as one, all united,
all following another
under the ultimate jurisdiction of the dog.
Oh, how the sheep all hated that dog.
One day, as the sheep run away
the dog chases, limping, whining.
The sheep are blind to its condition:
They look back and see bared teeth and angry eyes,
but its mouth is closed and its eyes are empty.
The sheep notice nothing until they hear a thud
and look back to see the dog lying in the mud,
having drawn its final breath.
The sheep run rampant.
