Mr. Black Bird of the Mourning
1The breath that made my eyelids heavy,
The prudent voice that was sweet and steady.
The softest lips that kissed me sweetly,
The long fingers that touched me meekly,
5The eyes that were once pools of fire,
The curvaceous grin that never tired.
Mr. Black bird that darkened the day,
Guardian angel that lighted my way.
9When society dulls you did not,
You sly fox that never got caught.
I long remember admiring you so,
I never wanted to let you go.
13We were destined to be together,
But I couldn’t stop that unfortunate weather.
The bond of fate that had deeply furrowed,
The horrid accident that left me widowed.
17I look at you now, dressed in black,
Hoping god would turn dreadful time back.
Back to a time full of love and no fear,
Back to a time of your life, my dear.
