Notes: I went for the suspenseful, scary approach. I'm not too sure if it worked out. Let me know what you think
She could feel them again.
Volleyball practice had run late for the third time this week and she was walking home in the dark. Everytime this had happened she felt like she wasn't alone. Everytime, she checked her surroundings, looking in all directions, but could never see anything.
A chill ran up and down her spine, she shivered. There was definitely a presence of some sort. She was certain of that.
She gripped her volleyball bag tighter. Her knuckles turned white. She shook her head, hoping to loosen some of the worry that was clinging to her mind.
"I'm just paranoid," she said to no one in particular, "there's nothing there." Just to be sure, she looked all around her once more. Finding nothing she straightened up and mentally berated herself for being so stupid.
The feeling intensified.
She felt a hole being burnt into the back of her head. There were eyes, watching her, some where near by. She gulped, which only added to the knot in her stomach. The few blocks she had remaining until she reached home now seemed like miles. She could hear every step she took. She could sense the eyes still boring into her back.
She approached the park she walked through to get home. Tonight the trees seemed to loom darkly over her head. Her stride quickened as she followed the path to the other side of the park. She passed empty benches and a playground. The swings gently rocking back and forth due to the wind whipping about.
"That is just too cliche," she said as she stopped and stared at the swings. Hearing some rustling in the bushes behind her, she scurried off and continued speed walking.
She managed to leave the park unscathed, but her house was still some blocks away and she was scared.
She found the alleyway that would let her cut across three blocks or so. She breathed a sigh of slight relief at the short cut and started to make her way through. It was dark and damp. The smell of garbage filled her nostrils. She could still feel eyes on her.
Her footsteps seemed louder. Or were they her footsteps? They were perfectly in sync with hers, but the sound they made was different.
She stopped in her tracks and violently twisted around. Nothing.
She commenced walking again. The strange footsteps started again. She ceased her movements again. The strange footsteps also stopped. She turned again, nothing... again.
A garbage bag shook slightly, capturing her attention. Her breathing became heavier, her lungs felt smaller and her heart felt bigger.
She approached the bag, slowly and carefully. Just as she was one foot away from the bag, she heard a rustle and a click.
She peeled away the black plastic of the bag, to reveal the eyes that had been watching her the entire time.
Suddenly, the eyes were replaced with the barrel of a gun.
Her eyes grew into saucers and her mouth dropped open.
"Please don't shoo-"
