Ch. 1 Codename: 7
A young male of the age of seventeen walked on a path through a large forest seeing a clearing a few hundred feet ahead of him. When he made it to the clearing about a mile away was a town with a number of tall buildings. With his hands in his pockets he strode into the town.
There wasn’t much of a population in the town and those who were out on the streets stared at the young man. He had brown spiky hair with brown eyes. He wore a solid black shirt and over it was a brown leather jacket with a fur collar and blue jeans. At his side was a colt revolver which he called “The Cannon”. He also had another small pistol hidden away under his jacket which he called “The Negotiator”. The Negotiator was used to get him out of a jam, other than that, the Cannon was his usual choice.
He walked a few blocks until he found a bar and then entered it. There were only a few people in it, talking among their company or sitting by themselves, the only thing they had in common was a drink in their hands. He took a seat at the bar and ordered a drink; he then began to watch all the people conversing and also watching the door to see who would come in.
Then a strange man came walking in and sat next to him at the bar. “Are you 7?” he asked. “What if I am?” he replied taking a sip of his drink. “Heh, yeah, you’re the one.” He said handing him an envelope. “Your, assignment.” He said. He took the envelope and then pulled out the Cannon and shot him in the head. The man dropped to the floor dead and he finished the last of his drink slamming it on the bar. “And that’s Loki to you.”
He opened the envelope and read it. He scanned through his next target’s profile. “You gotta be kidding me, that bastard was right outside!” he said leaving money on the counter and storming out of the bar. As the swinging doors on the bar flung open with Loki walking out angrily, a figure man in surprise.
“You!” he shouted turning towards the man that was startled, “You think you can slip away that easily? That’s your ass now!” he shouted. As the man began to run away, Loki quickly took out the cannon and shot him in the head. The man fell to the ground with his blood spilling on the sidewalk.
Loki walked up to the man and searched him and picked out a small strange looking orb. He placed it in his pack that was at his side and headed off to leave the city. “What a useless assignment! That’s it, the guys upstairs are going to have a piece of my mind when I get back, and this is their ass!”
He looked u pat the sky and it began to rain. “Shit, there is no way in hell that I am going to travel in the rain. There’s got to be an inn somewhere around here.” He said as he ran down the dirt road for another block until he found an inn.
When entered the inn and approached the counter; no one was behind it so he rang the bell and a middle aged woman came out of the doorway that was behind the counter. “Welcome, how are you? Do you need a room?” she asked. Loki smiled back at her, “Yes ma’am, just for one night though.” He replied. “Well now, just sign your name here and then I’ll give you a key to your room.” She said.
He took the pen that was sitting on the countertop and signed his name in the roster that was there. When he was finished signing in, she gave him a key to his room and he headed upstairs to where the bedrooms were. He walked down the hall until he found the room that had the number on it that matched his key. “Room number seven, how pleasant.” He muttered to himself.
Loki placed the key in the lock and turned it hearing it click. He turned the knob and went in; it was a rather large single room with a single bed and dresser as well as a window to give him some light however it was dim because of the rain. Next to the bed was a lamp which he turned on to brighten up the place.
The Cannon and Negotiator were unloaded and placed on the bed. Out of his side pack Loki pulled out a small gun cleaning kit and cleaned his two weapons. When he was done cleaning them he placed Cannon back in its holster and practiced his quick draw. After a while he then practiced the same with the Negotiator.
Loki lay on his bed with his two companions close by incase of an emergency. He woke up the next morning bright and early to grab something to eat and then left the town. After a few days of travel he approached a large city with towering skyscrapers and bustling streets; this was home.
He strolled along into the city being overshadowed by the enormous buildings. In the center of the city was a large business building that was the tallest structure in the city. Loki entered the building and took the elevator to the top floor. A large man turned around in his chair, Loki stormed up to his desk and slammed the parcel on his desk.
“Here’s your damn item you wanted me to get. I’m leaving” he said. “Wait a minute Loki. Is something troubling you?” the man asked. “Yeah, next time you have a mission as puny and worthless as this, send one of the fresh recruits down to do it, not me; that mission was a waste of my time!”
“If you have a problem, then go complain to the board.” He replied. Loki stormed the exit and slammed the door, “I plan to!”
Loki walked to the outer rim of the city and weaved in and out of the back alleyways. He finally found himself at the front door of a guild called Lion Heart. He entered the guild door; immediately the roar of laughter, conversation and the ring of beer glasses clashing together filled Loki’s ears.
“Loki! How was the job?” one of his companions said while chugging down a beer. “Crappy as usual.” He replied. Then a woman approached him, “Hey Loki, how about a little fun tonight eh?” she said winking at him. “Not tonight.” He replied. He headed off to the back of the guild and went to his bed room. Tomorrow, the board would have a piece of his mind.
