Lost puppy

I remember when I was 10 years old I got my very first puppy. I named him snickers although it seemed strange, his name fit perfectly. He was dark brown but light like caramel on his stomach. He was as adorable as a teddy bear but as bad as any stray dog. In 2005 my dad surprised me with a vacation to New York, back to my hometown for the very first time. The first thought that went though my mind is “I’m definitely not leaving snickers behind”. So of course I got wanted I wanted and snickers came along. One day I’ll never forget is when me, my three sisters, and my dad were on our way to the mall to go shopping. What didn’t cross our mind was bringing snickers to the mall. So while we were walking, hollering to get a cab to pick us up. It began to become useless. No cabs were empty and no cabs were willing to stop in the middle of traffic to give us a ride. My dad soon got frustrated and suggested walking to the next stop light. The sidewalks were crowded with people. I could barley walk without getting pushed by someone. Me being ten years old moved away from the crowd to the edge of the sidewalk. The previous day I remembered it rained so I fell right on my butt. It was the worst feeling anyone could ever imagine. Not only was that embarrassing but I felt as if I need a butt replacement. Clearly my dad was the first to notice and immediately came running to rescue me. I reached for his hand in relief that someone would help me get up. Right before standing up I began to panic. I kept saying “where’s snickers, where’s snickers”. I heard snickers cry as to me yelling out his name. I remember looking everywhere but still there was no sign of him. Surprisingly people stopped to help out but still even with their help we still couldn’t find him. Out of no where I hear “The dog’s in the sewer! The dogs in the sewer!”. And I am in just complete disbelief I was so confused at first I thought he was crazy because he made absolutely no sense. I just remember standing their crying, and really confused because everyone else was panicking. I remember it as a really chaotic day. Shockingly, there was more to it, more and more people showed up looking for this one puppy of mine. Fortunately, after 1 ½ hours of looking for snickers we eventually found him. As exhausted as all of us were, going to the mall went over our heads. Obviously going home was all we could do at that point. July 19th, 05 page 6 in the newspaper is exactly what I woke up to the next morning.
