Twinkling Lights, Constant Shadows

I said, "Oh, my heart is open
like a window on a hot summer day."
You said, "Boy, I can't love you.
So, stay far away."

But I can see us both shining, glistening, sparkling and it'll never fade.
Oh, I can see us creeping darkly, crawling along like afternoon shade....

Because....

We are only twinkling lights, we are only constant shadows.
Don't you ever turn off your shine or pull the shade across your windows...

And don't you say, "I can't give you
everything that you need..."
Because I will never have someone
come closer to me.....

We are both burning bright.
We are both as black as night.
We are both afraid
that we'll never have it made...

So, girl, open your heart
Let me inside
There is no reason to
run and hide
Show me how to see
the damage we've done
Oh, we are the moon
and we are the sun....
