Author’s Note – This piece sort of explains itself. Just a birthday drabble, in the semi-form of a play.

Trinity Birthday Drabble

Gem: Well, today is October 2nd, 2009, and do you know what that means?

Adrian: It’s Friday?

Luke: Whacks Adrian over the back of the head. No you idiot, it’s our birthday.

Adrian: Frowns. No, I’m fairly certain my birthday is the 15th of October.

Luke: Face palm. You’re an idiot.

Adrian: What? Looks confused.

Gem: Pats him on the back. There, there, it’s okay. But as I was saying, today is October 2nd, which means it’s Cake Day!

Adrian: Cake Day? Why not Ice Cream Day?

Gem: Because Cake Day sounds better. And for those who don’t know, Cake Day is the celebration of the birth of Trinity. Six years ago today, I first posted my crappy old first drafts on Fiction Press, and I’ve been stuck with these two idiots ever since. Jerks a thumb towards Luke and Adrian.

Adrian: Hey! Looks indignant.

Luke: I’d hardly lump me into the same category as him.

Gem: Anyway, I wanted to take this opportunity to say a few thank yous to some very special people. Six years ago (2003), not long after I posted the first chapter of Destiny Of Three, I received a review from Anjirika, and we’ve been the best of friends ever since. We’ve shared many stories and many ideas over the years, and all of the credit for the direction that the 3rd draft is now heading in is because of her! Glances at Luke and Adrian. She saved you guys, so say thank you.

Adrian: Rolls eyes. Thank you, Ange.

Luke: Yes, really, thank you. You’re awesome. Flashes his best smile.

Gem: It wasn’t until two years later (2005) that I met Shiko, but she has also become one of my best friends. She let me read the complete first draft of her fantastic Guardians story, and I have since developed a love affair with her character Ketsu.

Adrian: Snorts. You just have a thing for golden eyes and tortured pasts, don’t you?

Gem: Shrugs. Maybe. But come on, Ketsu’s hot.

Luke: And this little piece is verging on a cross-over once again.

Gem: Pokes tongue out at Luke. Whatever. Shiko has been an awesome writing buddy, and an awesome friend, and she’s currently living it up in England, so I hope she’s having fun, and is collecting loads of inspiration for her stories!

Adrian: Mutters. Unlike someone, who hasn’t written anything about us is weeks.

Gem: Glares at Adrian. Moving on. My last online friend that I’d like to thank is Elaine, whom I met over on Fan Fiction dot net back in 2004, and who fast became one of my best friends. A lot of the British locations and information in the series has come from her, and I can’t really imagine what it would be like to not have her around. Actually, I can’t imagine what it would be like to be without all three, as they have been there to watch Trinity grow and change, and are probably just as much a part of it as I am. So, many big hugs go out to the three of you!

Big Hugs: Bound out across cyberspace and crash tackle the three girls, half choking them in a glomp hug.

Gem: Closer to home, I’d like to thank Tamara and Lauran, my two bestest best friends! I still remember the first time Loz got a hold of the second draft, and whilst we were waiting at the movies to watch Pirates 3, she had her nose stuck in it the whole time. She also wanted to attack it with red pen and do her teacher trick to it, but still. And Mara, who drew me the first ever pictures of my characters-

Adrian: And whose fault it is that I rarely get drawn with a shirt on. Damn fangirls.

Gem: Ignores the interruption. –and who poked me and forced me to write when I really didn’t feel like it. You guys are both awesome, and I only wish that we all weren’t so busy and could see more of each other.

Luke: So what exactly are you doing today to celebrate the day of our creation?

Gem: Blushes. Eh he, I’m going to work.

Adrian: What!?

Gem: Well, sorry for needing to make money! I’m broke, so back off. Besides, I’m planning on treating myself to some caramel cookie shots at work, so relax. The day’s not going to be a complete waste. And I’m writing this, aren’t I?

Adrian: Grumbles. You should be writing chapter 6 of the 3rd draft.

Gem: Bite me. It’ll get done when it gets done. You hassling me won’t help.

Adrian: Shrugs. It can’t hurt.

Jaid: Appears on the scene, followed by Alisha and Harmony. Ok, so why the hell weren’t we invited to this little gathering?

Gem: Well … I didn’t want to run the risk of this getting way out of hand, and going on longer than I intended it to.

Jaid: And what’s the problem with that?

Harm: You could have at least included me. I’ve been around as long as those two have. Points at Luke and Adrian.

Alisha: Same here! I think it’s a bit unfair that the boys always get the spotlight. They’re not even that great, really.

Adrian: Hey! Looks mildly insulted.

Alisha: Rolls eyes. Well, it’s true. I’m the one who ends up saving all of you, so clearly I’m the one with the real talent.

Luke: I believe you had help in that instance, Alisha.

Alisha: Waves hand in a dismissive fashion. Minor technicality.

Andy: Appears, followed by Tyler, Imogen, Bryant, and Rian. And don’t you dare forget us! Especially Rian! He’s Mister Big-and-Important now. Drags her son over.

Rian: Mumbles. Way to embarrass me, mum.

Gem: I give up! Throws hands in the air. I try to do something nice and small, just a quick thank you for six awesome years, and you all have to run in here and demand attention! Glares. And you wonder why I like to enjoy long stretches of time where I ignore all of you.

Everyone: Doesn’t look concerned at all. Most just look indifferent, with Adrian looking more than slightly annoyed.

Gem: Whatever, I give up. I’m going to work. Storms out.

Jaid: Looks around. Is she really gone?

Luke: Seems like it. Doesn’t seem at all concerned.

Adrian: Shrugs, and pulls out a tub of strawberry ice cream from stuff space. Like I care. She’ll be back. She always comes back.

Three hours later …

Adrian: See? What did I tell you?

Gem: Are you all still here? Is slightly surprised.

Alisha: Where else are we going to go?

Gem: Good point.

Luke: Did you at least eat those cookie shots you mentioned before?

Gem: Smiles. Yes I did! I had four yummy caramel and shortbread cookie shots in your honour, and they were delicious!

Harm: Why only four? Why not one for each of us? That would have made more sense.

Gem: Rolls eyes. Because I took them out of the cool room and didn’t pay for them. I couldn’t take too many, unless I wanted to fork out money. Besides, four was more than enough. They’re very sweet, and get kind of sickly if you eat too many.

Adrian: And where are ours?

Gem: Shrugs. At Pizza Hut. Go and buy them yourself. Pokes tongue out at Adrian.

Luke: Now that’s just mean.

Adrian: For once, I actually agree with you!

Gem: Waves their complaints away. Now, I could have sworn that I actually had a purpose to this little drabble, and I think I lost it somewhere along the way.

Purpose: You were celebrating Trinity’s 6th birthday, and saying thank you to everyone who has helped out along the way.

Gem: Oh right. Now I remember. So, thank you to Anjirika, Shiko, Elaine, Mara, and Loz for all of the years of help, support, and most of all, friendship! You guys are awesome, and it’s real nice to know that, even after all this time, you’re all still so keen on this story! And here’s a bit of shameless plugging for my Trinity website – trinity537 dot webs dot com is the place to go for all of the latest information and funky facts about the series, and about me. I’m now actually paying for a premium membership, so please go and check it out!

Alisha: Coughs. Wrap it up now.

Gem: Oh right. Well, it’s been great, and I hope you all enjoy Trinity for many years to come! Who knows? Maybe one day I’ll actually have it all finished and published, and you can proudly add it to your bookshelves.

Adrian: You’d better bloody get it published!

Gem: Oh quiet you. So yeah, I’m gonna go now, but please keep reading, and please keep sending me your ideas and suggestions! It’s much appreciated, and I do try to incorporate as much as I can into the story.

Everyone: Just say goodbye already!

Gem: Ok! Waves. Bye!
