In the Trenches
by Josh Rittenhouse

Joking with my better senses
Bending and mending all the fences
Say, "I do.", Even when you never did

Take offense at this idea
spewing forth mental diarrhea
There won't be simplicities enacted

I believe in the lies
something's gotta give
Now my hands are tied
It ain't easy to forgive
House with the green grass
White picket fences
Just broken shards of glass
My life, here, in the trenches

Underclassed and broke apart
fallen words of a broken heart
Speaking out against my better half

Tell the tales that got you hung
Sing the songs that must be sung
All it makes me want to do is laugh

I believed all the lies
Something finally gave
watch as our big dream dies
Now lay it in the grave
Houses with grass so green
Are just your life's pretenses
Another broken dream
My life, here, in the trenches....
