“There has been double homicide sir. This time, a mother and daughter. The daughter was murdered in her bedroom, but the girl was found at least five miles away. From the looks of it, she was running from her murder but he caught up.” a young woman stood by the desk of her superior reciting the cases details.
The man sighed and rubbed his thick fingers to his greasy temples, before glancing up.
“Any leads Arianna?” was all he asked.
The woman called Arianna shifted her weight from foot to foot, unsure.
Her boss sighed again. “Is there any formal leads Officer?”
Arianna shook her head stoutly. “No sir. But, when I searched the area of the mother’s crime scene, I did find some small finger prints and a strand of hair. At the daughters scene, I found size 8 shoe marks. I took the liberty of casting them. I hope that is alright sir.”
He glared up at her. “No it is not alright Officer Arianna! That is not your job! That is the job of the forensics! If you don’t want me to pull you off this case, you better give me a damn good reason for it.”
“Sargent John, that won’t be necessary, I assure you. The reason I took the liberty of doing that is because no one else could see the evidence!” the poor woman cried.
John paused for just a second before slamming his hands down on his desk and shoving his chair back, standing in the same motion. “The least you could do Officer, is tell me the truth! Your lucky I don’t go to MY superiors and have them fire for your insabortance! As it is, other than doing others job, your a good officer, and it would be a shame for the force to lose you. And, you have a...” he paused his growling looking for the word. “Knack, for finding murderers. Either way, you are off the case. And that is my final word on this matter. Is that fully understood Officer?”
“Yes sir.” she answered stiffly before stalking out.
