Tradewinds

For Sweety

They blow from the northeast

They blow from the southeast

Connecting us all together

Through pressure and fair weather

The Tradewinds, sending the ships on fair days

To foreign lands and foreign ways

Many a times in fear and mistrust of these lands of no name

If only for the adventure, wealth, and fame

Although we lust for glory and to make our map longer

Our xenophobia can be far much stronger

We can’t trust them; they’re too different from us

We are right, we aren’t making a fuss

But I say it ain’t so

How could our tolerance ever get so low?

You say you want to explore

Yet the people that were there first you abhor?

We’re not so different, you know

If you could only see their glow

They’re the same as us, you and I

Even if that wisdom seems to pass you by

But I’ve seen them in all their best

Even though you think you’re better than all the rest

I’ve seen the jewels from far away

And I know that even you will see them someday

We’re all under the same sky

To me you can’t make excuses or lies

But we’re all the same inside

From the unknown you can’t hide

But my soul reaches across the sea

The Tradewinds will carry me

To a stranger in my eyes

But a friend and sister in my secret heart

So I know

It’s just fear, I say so

If you just take the risk you’ll see

They’re not so different from you and me
