Mommy keeps flowers

In the house

Vases everywhere

Overflowing with

Vibrant reds and oranges

Cheerful yellow, pinks

Cool purples, blues

And always, always

Greens.

Mommy keeps flowerts

Bouquets of gladiolus,

Cherry blossoms,

Roses, black-eyed Susans-

Even once, thistles.

Sunflowers of course-

Daddy loves them.

But never, never lilies.

Lilies smell like death.

Mommy keeps flowers,

Fresh ones every week

Making me smile when I see them,

Their scent meandering

Throughout the house,

Bringing with it the joy of

Motherhood and childhood

Simultaneously.

Mommy keeps flowers.
