Chapter 10

Shawn are you dressed? Isacc will be here soon.” Abby yells to Shawn from downstairs. Shawn ponders, if only she knew what Isacc was really like, a Harvester, possibly the lead Harvester. Nearly three weeks have gone by since Shawn and his friends discovered vampires and werewolves really do exist, and they are battling to destroy or not destroy mankind. Shawn and his friends have become allies of a Nite Wolf family, Xavier father of the bunch who was missing and Lloyd along with Brent and Phoebe, the two Nite wolves who saved their lives just three weeks ago, at a social gathering the Darkend. The name given to the Harvesters since they only lurk at night. Their powers gone during the day, sun light is deadly to them, one of only two things that can kill them. The other of course is decapitation. Now Hollywood romanticized stake through the heart, less gruesome then beheading according to Lloyd. Makes sense he supposed. It’s the first of October, just not even three months to go until the winter solstice, the night the Harvesters plan to unleash their fury on mankind. A day the Nite Wolves have been planning to prevent since the 1400’s. Coincidentally this is the same night the Night Wolves will loose their power for the entire solstice, hence why the Harvesters want to attack that night.

“Sorry I’m late mom, you know trying to be extra presentable for Isacc.” Shawn says as he comes into the living room.

“Son, you’ve changed you sure you’re all right? I mean you could have been killed that night, your classmates were burned in that awful fire.” Abby asks

“Mom, it’s ok. Look enough has been made about it, how can we move on and heal if everyone constantly wants to bring it up?” Shawn says, knowing the real truth. Yeah they were burned, because the Nite Wolfs; Phoebe and Brent, beheaded the bodies to make sure they do not turn into Harvesters. The Darkend killed them not a drunken bonfire gone wrong like the media has explained. A mass funeral honoring the students was held last week, our first days back after the slaughter. A bonfire, that’s believable. A bonfire went out of control while drunken teenagers were unable to escape the flames and perished, luckily the firefighters arrive to put out the fire before the woods caught fire. Of course that firefighter and a colleague were both Harvesters and they covered up the real truth.

“When’s Isacc supposed to be here?” Shawn asks as he pours a glass of orange juice.

“Any minute, but Shawn remember this is your chance to get on at our firm, you impress Isacc you’re in.” Shawn’s dad Roger says as he pats his only son on the back. The doorbell rings as Roger answers. Shawn knows Isacc is a cruel vicious individual. He agreed to do this believing he works for his dad; he can keep an eye on the Harvesters. The group known as the Enlightened, a self coined name of Harvester fighters, is not sure if Isacc realizes Shawn knows his secret or not. See when a Nite Wolf is morphed, it only remembers certain aspects, the mind is in a different state, this allows them to deal with killing and not have guilt. They are sure the Harvesters are like this too. When they are full vampire mode, they can forget, not that they have guilt but there minds are separate, so they can function as close to normal human as possible.

Isacc shakes everyone’s hands as idle chit chat occurs. They sit down to dinner, spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread. Of course Hollywood would use this as a test for Isacc to be a vampire, but garlic does nothing to them. Lloyd said he thought garlic being used as vampire detector was invented to sell spaghetti to the American people, who knows for sure.

“So Shawn you do have quite a bit of readiness I see. Advanced classes, require lots of homework and you know law does too.” Isacc says candidly. Shawn is having a hard time taking Isacc too seriously; after all he’s a vampire.

“Yeah, dad here encouraged me to prepare myself. Law has always been something I have interest in and working with you and dad would boost my start.” Shawn answers while looking at his watch. Which on cue, the doorbell rings, it’s Lloyd a Nite wolf who has become one of Shawn’s closest friends since they met just a few weeks ago.

“Shawn, you’re friend Lloyd is more then welcome to stay for dinner.” Abby says.

“No, don’t want to be a bother sorry didn’t know you all had company.” Lloyd says while staring at Isacc, wondering if Isacc knows for sure who he is. Shawn takes Lloyd by the shoulder and leads him into the next room.

“I thought you would not show yourself, this could be dangerous, Lloyd.”

“Sorry man, look being outside, Isacc could easily entice you and your parents and we’d not have enough time to react and save you from outside. I had to be here to stop him, just in case ok.” Lloyd says trying not to allow his voice to become too audible. Shawn nods as he walks with Lloyd back to the dinner table where they take their seats.

“So, Isacc, err Mr. Drake you and Mr. Vansing are law partners right?” Lloyd asks.

“Yes son we are. I’ve known Mr. Vansing along time now. Good man, good family, could not ask for a better partner.” Abby is finishing placing the goodies on the table while the five begin to eat.

“Ohh, I’m stuffed, great food, ma’am. You mind if I kiss your wife Roger? I mean we’re partners right? We share?” Shawn and Lloyd strike each other “what the…” looks as Isacc jumps up and bends Abby over on his right arm, and bites down on her neck causing her to scream in fear! Roger in shock starts yelling and hops up to save her, but Isacc slaps him sending him flying into the wall separating the kitchen and the dinning room. Isacc finally drops a silent Abby to the floor, he looks at Shawn and Lloyd with blood all over his mouth, his canine’s extended as he starts breathing heavily with an eerie evil maniacal laugh.

“So you thought I would not realize who you were did you?” Isacc says as he starts moving closer to the boys. “I knew damn well you survived the feeding Shawn. I had planned for years to have you in my family. Mr. Popular, you could have led the entire school to me, to become powerful. But you chose to side with puppies, mere doggies and now your mother will die, and your father soon there after.” Lloyd begins morphing into a wolf, but Isacc not intimidated, smashes a dinner plate over his face knocking him to the floor. He grabs some silverware and stabs him with a fork. He screams believing victory is his, but the fork was not real silver as Lloyd fully morphed shoves Isacc across the table, followed by a howling call to the Nite Wolves close by. Isacc shaking off the items from the table that have fallen onto him stands up. “Curse you Roger; you always were a cheap bastard.” As he springs to Roger’s body he rips his head off of its shoulders, blood squirting in the air as Shawn starts screaming in fear, as Lloyd pounces to Isacc trapping him on the ground. His wolf snout protruding into Isacc’s face as spit begins to drip towards Isacc, who begins laughing as he knocks Lloyd off of him, sending him flailing into kitchen against the counter knocking over dishes, silverware, and other odds and ends from the counter. Isacc grabs Roger’s headless body and uses his arms as an animatronics.

“Now Shawn what have I told you about your friends? You have really allowed yourself to go to the dogs!” Isacc mockingly says while pointing Roger’s finger at Shawn. Isacc launches the lifeless body onto Shawn the deadweight has trapped him underneath allowing Isacc to stalk to him. “Shawn, Shawn, you have a choice, you know your mother will have to revenge kill someone. Or she will die. See I’m sure it will be you. C’mon me and Abby we dated in high school, we had sex multiple times. But after a few months she came to me with tears in her eyes. Apologizing to me, she told me she got drunk before we met and slept with Roger here. Well that one night produced you!” Isacc has laid on top of Roger’s body, his breath filling Shawn’s face with each word as blood from his mother drips on his face, Shawn struggling to get away, to no avail. “See, you’re mother hated you, you’re the bastard child that made her loose me! She never loved your father. She hated him, but she had to be with him for you. So since your father is dead, I bet she feeds on YOU!” Isacc breaks into a maniacal laugh as Abby’s body emerges with fangs growing!

“NO!!!!!!!!” Shawn screams as Isacc grabs Abby and they share a passionate kiss. Abby leans down and drinks some of Roger’s blood off of the floor. She rolls around in the blood, smearing it over her clothes. “MOM! What are you doing! Isacc killed dad, tell me you loved him, tell me this isn’t true. I’m your son!!!!” Shawn finally freeing himself from under his dad’s body says while cowering to the wall. He being scared to death glances at Lloyd whose wolf body lay motionless in the kitchen, wondering where everyone else is.

“Shawn, your dad was an ass! I prayed for the day you would join Isacc so I no longer had to live this life, a life of being his bitch. You ruined it Shawn, again. Just like almost two decades ago. I loved Isacc, and still do. But I knew you losing your father without knowing would be devastating. So we planned on raising you to become Isacc’s new partner and become a Harvester, then I could join and drink your father’s blood! But, no you had to ruin it, RUIN IT!!!!” She screams in terror as she leaps to Shawn ready to revenge kill him. She let’s out a banshee type yell as she leans in to Shawn, but suddenly her head slides off, and her scream is silenced. Mo emerges into Shawn’s view, with a sword, that he used to stop Abby. Her body catches flames on top of Shawn who scurried away from it. They turn their attention to Isacc who has been attacked by Lloyd. Lloyd picks Isacc up and tosses him towards a window, but Isacc gathers himself and performs a back hand spring off of the window seal, his arms wide as he arrogantly smiles.

“It’s not over, Shawn, you know who I am, but you’re still just a human germ to me. Your mother was a good piece of ass, but I love no one. Sorry you had to kill her, now good luck explaining this” he motions at the mess “to the police, remember you’re buddy Kyle is dead, he can no longer cover this stuff up. As for you wolfie, your day of reckoning is near. I will personally take your life, just like I did to your father!” Isacc jumps out the window, and disappears into the night. Lloyd begins morphing back into human. Mo slides his saber into a holster on his side. Look of accomplishment on his face.
