Her Shield

A sea of ebony, of shadowed shrouded pain,
Midnight waking darkness, mantled by the rain,
And haunting as a wolf, crying out her pain,
She whispered over ribbons, boulevards of rain.

Curls of nightshade black, and lips of autumn red,
Tears of crystal dew, fall from violet eyes as dead,
And she walks in ever night, beneath violent skies of red,
Veiled in velvet white, a denial that he’s dead.

His lonely face her lover, in tortured howling night,
And her gown to match his eyes, remembering his light,
But gone is he from her world, and she remains in night,
Weeping tears that hurt, dreaming of his light.

This sea of ebony, of shadowed shrouded pain,
Her midnight walks in darkness, mantled by the rain,
And weeping she cries out, hurting from her pain,
Wishing he was here, to shield her from the rain.
