The Sound of a Voice

What if the sound of a voice

Of a whisper, of a yell

Could change the way we think

The way we talk, the way we tell

But it does oh it does

When the guns are firing

While the children are screaming

And the women are crying

A single word will

Make people pause

Make people think

Make people fight for a good cause

When all seems lost

And seems like we cannot win

A voice calls out

Sharp as a pin

Why are we here?

What are we doing?

Take a look around you

And the harm you are causing

The governments are corrupt

And the people are dying

The guns are blazing

And the world is crying

That voice calls out

And the people lift their heads

That voice is the truth

It’s time to clean up the mess

The people rise up

Rebelling for justice

For peace not war

The voice the soul or their existence

It started with a whisper

A doubt, a thought

And grew and grew

Until it could keep quiet no more

People will listen

Through the sounds of the guns

The sounds of the planes

The sounds of the exploding bombs

It hits you like a slap

When you’re being unreasonable and rude

It knocks you right back

Until you figure out what to do

Although all seems lost

Seems like no one will listen

When everyone’s silent

Just waiting for the whistle

And when it blows

You take off

Running for your life

Running away from misery and strife

And when you get to the end

You whoop and cheer

Your friends crowd around you

There’s nothing to fear

That’s what it was like

When the voice first called out

Now it’s a race

While you yell and shout

And the voice eggs you on

In your mind and soul

Telling you to keep going

Even when you feel like you’re going to fall

And now when things get out of hand

Don’t keep silent or just listen

Be the voice that calls out

And makes everything different
