Ch.6-Death of a Hunter
Once the young girls were asleep and out of the room, Leon called a meeting.
"The hunter must die!" Leon declared. "He struck at us in the past. We must strike back now!"
"What of the hunter's whelps?" the Beta asked.
"Gen has said that she would take them in and raise them to not hate our kind."
Gene asked, "How do you plan on taking my stepfather down?"
"Easy," the Beta growled. "We will launch a frontal assault!"
"No, you won't."
"How dare you order us!" Lance growled menacingly.
"I am the Alpha's mate. I say this for the pack's sake."
"Explain," Leon ordered softly.
"He is equipped to kill the pack. A frontal assault would allow him time to retaliate. He is angry and desperate. He will try to do anything in order to get his daughters back. We can use this. I propose that we set up a trap."
"With what bait?" Leon asked.
"I'll lure him into the trap."
"No!" the Alpha roared.
"Darling, it is either me or my mom. I'll do whatever I can to protect my pack. That is my duty as your mate and a member of this pack."
"How will you fool him? He knows that you are with us."
"Rough me up a bit. Give me a couple of cuts, bruise me a bit, and smear some dirt on me."
"I will not allow it!" Leon growled, pulling Gene to him. "I refuse to condone any harm coming to you!"
"You will this once or I will get someone else to do it!"
"None will, if I order them not to."
"Then, I'll do it to myself. I have to do this. I'll do whatever I can to protect our pack. I'll heal, but, if someone dies, they will not come back. If any other of the pack goes, they could get killed. I won't allow that to happen."
"...Fine. The ambush point shall be our hut, okay?"
"Thank you for understanding, my love."
"Lance, rough Gene up. I can't. I will see you after the hunter is dead, darling."
"I love you, Leon. Don't you dare get yourself shot!"
"I won't, and I love you, too."
When Gene emerged to find the hunter, he had a busted lip, several cuts, and plenty of bruises. He was sore all over, but he knew it would be worth it. He found the man near the center of the village.
"Stepdad!" he called.
"Gene! How did you escape!?"
"They were more preoccupied with Mom and the girls. I barely got out of there!"
"Where are they?"
"Near here!"
"Show me."
Gene did as he was told and directed his stepfather into his and Leon's hut. Lance pounced in wolf form on the hunter and quickly ripped the hunter's throat out.
Leon came out of the shadows and pulled Gene close to him. "How are you, Love," he asked.
"Sore, but, at least, nobody from the pack had to die."
"Thank you, Gene. You were a great actor. I'm...so sorry I was so angry."
"Don't be sorry. You were angry because you care about me. However, now we can live without fear of him."
"And this is only the beginning," Leon sighed, kissing Gene. "Especially because I can smell that you are pregnant."
"What!?"
