Waking
My eyes are closed;
I'm not yet awake.
Surgeons try to save me
From my fatal mistake;
I know I'll wake up
At least one more time,
And feel pain and regret
For my sin and my crime.
I open my eyes
Jarred by sudden pain;
I try to fight it,
But my struggle is in vain.
The lights seem blinding
But they aren't even that bright…
And that's when I realize
The room is as dark as night.
Only one light shines
From a door far away
And I somehow know
That this was my last day.
I'm suddenly standing,
Healed once more
Better
Than I ever was before.
The guilt is gone now
The pain is, too
Because Christ took it on the cross
For me and you.
I now live
In eternal day
Because of the One
Who took my sin away.
