| Ludus
Author: The Mad Poet Ludus' was the word used for a roman gladiatorial school. Of all the things my first school taught me, I remember most that the Louisville Slugger was the gladius of the K-through-6; how to take one to the face and still get back up swinging.

Ludus
The colosseum of downtown
antiroman sentiment;
its skyline concrete filled
and pillars painted blue
(and steel)
they call this kindergarten town.
The kings on yonder
jungle gy m(e)
bearing skirtflip scepters,
looking down,
or up at (court) recess.
God nails snakes
to climbing trees when
down the road
Valhalla
lets out half an hour earlier;
they come to watch
the virgins eat dragons
with
thumbs turned smiling down.
Someone throw that boy a
(sword)
baseball bat.
The scuffle spreads on
dusty fields, 'cross white lines
made by chalk and
black (crosses)
caused by rain.
Hail Caesar,
we who are about to die
scatter back
before the playground teacher
catches us.
