Lasting Looks

From across the space I wait

For your lingering gaze to raise to mine

Like a drug, I crave it

The two glittering grays blackened at the edges

Like dying flowers – paper after fire

Makes me weak at the knees without mercy

Unlike smiles, they do more than release the

Butterflies from their cages

It gives inhalation to where my diaphragm lacks

The breath that you stole with your glance.
