What is fear?

The dictionary definition is an emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid.

It is so much more than that though. Like a feeling of being alone washes over you and abandonment takes over.

Everything seems to blend together into an incomprehensible blur, moving too fast to make any sense of it.

Your heart beats so hard, you feel your ribs should have shattered already, and the ability to breathe seems like a distant memory. Which is weird, because somewhere in the back of your mind, you know you're fine, yet it is so hard to break away.

All instinct tells you… shouts at you to run, but your body feels weak, and you know that the moment you move, that'll be it.

You're distantly aware of the people watching you, some out of pure curiosity, others with concern.

It's those you want to break out of it for. You don't want them wasting their time worrying for you – you're not worth it. But you can't. Cold, icy hands are wrapping around you, holding you back, squeezing tighter and tighter. You can't take it any more.
