Last time she would watch the sun set. Behind this dusty town.

And the lights glow slowly trying to catch up with the night.

And then failing. Last time she would hear the owls mournfully hoot.

On the forever bare trees. Leafless even in summer.

Last time she would glance with dreat at the rusty sign with its paint peeling.

Last time her stomach would sink and her heart would freeze as she said hello to him.

Or climb endless flights of stairs to ten hours of boredom.

Last time her feet would ache as she walked endless pavements in worn out sneakers.

Last showers in cold water, last breakfasts of stale bagels. She was waving a silent farewell.

Packing her bags and taking that flight to a new world.
