Blink and It's Gone

I don't hold my thoughts too long,

just an instant and they're gone.

I search for words

that I once had,

that I once loved,

but lost instead.

In the shower

or just before sleep;

they come, they grow

and then they leave.

With only the knowledge

that I had something beautiful,

something I lost,

left in their wake.
