City Dreaming

There's some kind of barrier
holding me apart
from the city of lights
across the river.
and I can feel this separation
as if it were physical,
not just this invisible force
begging me to tear down these walls.

Through the car window
I can see the distance
as it grows between us,
the place that I long for,
the place that I am.
And I look down the line,
hoping that one day
this is the place that I'm calling home.
